i wanna buy a pet snail...i was looking at giant african land snails or g.a.l.s. but i read they are illegal in u.s....so i then started looking at apple snails but i dont think they would make good pets..anyway if there are any snail owners i would like to know what kind of snails make good pets! and are legal in the u.s

i had the water ones.. i dont know if they are snail snails lol. But they multiplied VERY VERY fast. And i would clear them out and more would come out. They were really cute small though. Water ones arent so bad.

Though not a snail, but closely related, Banana slugs are fairly large and native to parts of the U.S. I have heard of them being kept as pets.

If this is a stupid question, so be it...why are some snails illegal?

G.A.L.S are specificly illegal beecause they have not yet beend introduced to america and farmers are afraid that because of their size they would eat all the crops if they got into the wild.

i also wondered about why they were illegal...im not totally sure why they are illegal but that seems like the most logical reason

i had a mystery/apple snail in my fish tank and it just kept multiplying and multiplying, until eventually, the snails took over the whole tank and i had to dispose of them all, including the huge one that started the whole issue. i highly suggest NOT getting an apple snail.
past that, i cant really give you too much advice...

some types of snails do not reproduce asexually, so if you got one, you'd be fine. I thought the apple snail was one, but I could be wrong. We had an awesome water snail (thought he was an apple) for a while....his shell was yellow and his eyes (or maybe it was his antennae) were bright red. We got him at a local aquarium store for about $2...Keep him with live plants and he will be active.

    peace
