I went to buy beer today

and when she asked for my ID I realized I didn't have it on me. When I was in the hospital yesterday I asked my sister to hold it and she still had it in her purse. I told the cashier my sister had it and I would be back. Meanwhile, she checked out other customers.
It was definitely not my first time buying beer, but I usually go to a different store.

So I come back with my ID and she looked at it. "That don't even look like you."
Me: "I know, it's an old ID. I look kind of different now." I tried to explain to her that I was in the hospital yesterday and that Therese was still holding it.
She starts telling me how my eyes don't even look the same, and the lips are different. I'm thinking, how do you know how my lips look, lady? That an old picture. She says: "My ID's old too but it still look like me." I asked her if she wanted me to take my hair down since it's down in the picture, but she called another chick over, one probably younger than me or close to my age and asked her if she thought the picture looked like me. They had me smile and I took off my glasses. The girl seemed more confident than she had, and agree there was a resemblance. I again tried to explain it was me

So they called another manager over. She didn't even really look at me, just asked for the birth date on the license. Then at the prodding of the cashier she glanced at me and said it was fine.

There was a guy in line behind me probably in his 40's - 50's asked to see my ID. "That's you all day long!" he said.
"I know!"

So anyway, I got my beer (actually I was buying it for Therese ) but I just thought the whole thing was funny. I've never had a problem buying beer before, but then again I usually go to a different place where Therese and I used to work, and they know me there. (Plus they have teenaged cashiers who don't give a damn ).

That would have pissed me off.

Some places around here (the grocery stores, for instance) have a mandatory carding policy for anyone who looks under the age of 30... which is ridiculous.

 

around here they generally assume that if you hand your id over easily and without looking nervous, its probably you... my picutre doesnt even look like me but i never get in shit over it

hell, the first year where i coudl buy booze (19, yay canuckia) they didnt even ask for my id and gave me an odd look when id pass it to them. thena gain, i usually went with my mom lol, since shed give me a lift for errands now and then yay moms

I get carded every single time I buy alcohol or even tobacco, even if I'm in a grocery store buying food and just one bottle of wine. I wouldn't mind except it's annoying coz my driver's licence is Finnish and so it looks different to the UK one and it always takes forever for the cashiers to decide whether it's fake or not and they look at me suspiciously the whole time.

 

one time they wouldnt let me buy two packs of ciggarettes at once cause I was with someone who looked under 18. LOL what a bunch of bullshit

I would have left that store the second they started giving me shit. I'm doing them a favor by buying beer from them, they're not doing me a favor by selling it to me.

 

Dude, I wasn't leaving without my beer! That's like an admission that I was trying to do something illegal. Although technically buying beer for my sis who's not quite 21 is illegal.... but they don't know that's what I was doing.

i've been carded a couple times before for being with someone who was buying beer, which i was not even going to be drinking.


but yeah, i'm with bsr... i've almost hoped for someone to give me a hard time just so i have an excuse to shout fuck you and throw their beer everywhere.

 

true... i like havig 2 pieces of photo id, helps with crap like that. neither relaly look like me admittedly, but they do look like each other (medium length red hair, while i now have long blonde because i am too lazy to dye it regularly)... uni student id here has yer picture on it and you have to have it for school so its easy enough to have secondary photo id

 

I hate hate hate being carded. Dont know why, just do. My mom is always bugging me to buy her a powerball, and I hate doing it cuz no doubt I will be carded. I know I don't look under 18, but f'in A, it happens every time.

 

I don't mind showing my ID. What I don't like is being treated like a liar/criminal.

 

Those clerks are stupid. I wouldn't have fought with you about it. Either I would have asked you your sign, hs grad year, or something of the nature or I wouldn't have served you at all...if I truly didn't believe it was you. All the hmmming and hawwwing bout the situation would be a strike against them if you weren't 21 and shit went down.
