....but was turned away simply because I didn't have any shoes on. My father was with me (he had come to donate also) and just shook his head at the woman. "What? Do we all have to wear gloves too?" He asked. The woman just said it was policy, so I had to sit and wait while my father donated. Too bad I didn't have a pair flip flops or something in the car. Being turned away from helping people hurts, especially over something so silly.

    Love.

that has to be the dumbest thing I've heard. The Red Cross is pleading with people to donate blood because of extremely low amount in the bank and to turn you away becaue you're barefoot ... dumb, really dumb.

    Puh-leazze!

Turned away because you were barefoot??? The blood goes directly from a vein in your forearm, through a catheter, through a plastic hose and into a thick plastic bag. No contact with your barefeet at all.

    Sad.

Yes, it is. The idea that lives depend on blood donations -- for which the donors are paid nothing, mind you -- and these morons, who are supposedly knowledgeable about health and safety issues, turn people away for not having shoes on, is deplorable. If someone came in wearing the flimsiest of flip-flops, it would be okay, I'm certain. But bare feet are bad -- why?

Oh, by the way, that picture in your sig is really stupid. I suppose you support the idea of Bush making peace with Osama Bin Laden, like he's not really a bad guy at heart, huh? Dumb. There are such better ways to make a case against war. That one is really just stupid.

much of american society has some really strange ideas about the "importance" of wearing shoes. if i'm outside and not weraing shoes its not a big deal, but try to walk inot a school building or something and suddenly things change. putting shoes on to go inot a building? weird.

I am all for being barefoot..

    BUT

I think it's like the same reason you have to wear shoes if u work in a restaurant or a doctors office...

in a restaurant you could get burned or gets something like chicken guts on your feet..

but in a hospital..you could step on an infected needle, the nurse could drop on and poke a foot...i think it' s also for health reasons..like if there was some blood on the floor or anything...germs..whatever....

im not completely against the rules....because i wouldn't go into a restaurant barefoot......I don't think everyone has to accepct everything..it is common respect for people who do not belive in the things we do....i dunno...that's just me....

i'd for sure go to the park w/ out shoes though...

Well, you could think like that, but then you could apply that to all sorts of things that ARE accepted without question in today's society.

Why should the line be drawn at bare feet?

umm.. no. its a joke man (the sig). tho its a very serious statement. i don't believe in war. i do believe in self defense tho. i think our war should be on.. lets say bin laden and saudi arabia. but its really on iraq. why? because bush is greedy.
i'm sorry if you don't believe people should make love and not war.. maybe you're not as peaceful as you claim.

Maybe they have some sort of policy saying: barefoot=poverty=AIDS or something. And then they just send barefoot people away, even though they should test everything for AIDS.

    hm. just my oppinion.

That is really ridiculous. There are people out there in need of certain blood types, and they're worried about damn bare feet? Honestly. Once, I saw a druggie give blood.. and he was so clearly geekin', it couldn't have been possible to NOT notice, but he gave blood. *sigh* What the hell..

Well the world doesn't have to be that way, and in fact THE WORLD isn't that way. USA does not equal THE WORLD.

There's no such policy in any other country as far as I'm aware, with the possible exception of places that belong to American chains.

Thats why when in other countries you avoid the american chains unless you know they dont mind bare feet or shirtless people. Thats why I dont like this country going around and influencing these other countries to have our busineses because when we bring our businesses into their countries we bring the problems of our businesses along with them and just ruin what that country really is anyways. We should just let them have their own busineses and keep ours here. Besides our people need the jobs.

You know what I wanna know? How come I can't walk into a Taco bell at 2am without shoes, but some hs kid (of a younger grade then me, mind you) can make our food without gloves and a hairnet? Like his hands are very clean... it's 2 in the morning! He's probably so damn tired he forgot to wash his hands, let alone zip up.
