man.. the ends of my hair are separating all the time! Oh man.. I can't more I have cut them twice but they are still separating:( I don't dye them, don't dry with hair-drier, make feeding mask, use Pantene for damaged hair.. however they are still spliting!! Why?? I know I'll never have longhair :(

I make this thread here 'cause long hair is a piece of hippy culture :) maybe you know some useful advices?
    Thanx..

You mean that the ends of your hair are separating into two pieces? We call it "split ends"... I think that is what you mean by doubling.

If your hair is long enough to put into a loose braid, do that. I find that the secret to having long hair is to keep in conditioned, and to leave it alone. Don't brush it too much. And always sleep with it braided or in a loose ponytail.

I don't brush them too much.. and sleep with loose hair..

Maybe it's because of lock of some vitamins? blah..

how long is your hair now?

u can also try a mix of aloe, vitimin e & jojoba oil

I've heard mixed reviews about Pantene too. I haven't used it for yrs., but I know of folks that had trouble with more hair breakage than they did using other products. This may not be the problem, but I have heard more than one person say that when they switched to other products, their hair got better. You may want to consider a more natural hair product that actually nourishes the hair more than Pantene does. Also, sodium lauryl and laureth sulfates (used as sudsing agents in shampoos) dry the hair and can cause spit ends, etc. Good luck, hope it works out for ya'! :)

yea i agree natural produccts would be better, for the longest time i just used dr bronners oh..& dont over wash either..twice a week should be good, if your stripping the nqtural oils out of it every day it will dry out & start getting split ends

Long hair may be part of the "hippie culture" but it isn't a defining thing to what it is. Whats inside counts for more than whats outside!

Do you wash it daily? If you do, you might want to cut it down to every other day. Still rinse it and stuff in the shower, but no shampoo or conditioner. That's what I did and my hair is a ton healthier and my ends don't look all nasty and I just dyed my hair recently and haven't had a haircut in a couple of months. Generally my hair starts getting raggedy after about a month, but it's nice and healthy now that I've cut the washing back to every other day. If your hair's not too oily, you can go even longer. Mine produces a bit too much oil to go more than one day without washing it. If you don't wash it every day, those oils in your hair will set to repairing and protecting it and it will look a lot healthier.

Like Sus was saying, the jury is still out on Pantene. There is a theory that the high amount of silicone (what makes your hair feel so nice and silky) in the products actually builds up over time, hardening and then causing breakage.
I agree with experimenting with some other shampoos and conditioners. If you're looking to go the more natural route, Nature's Gate Patchouli Mandarin conditioner is nice--thicker than most other natural conditioners I've encountered. And a good natural shampoo is J.R. Liggett's shampoo bar. They're both worth looking into.
The suggestion of jojoba oil is good, but it's kind of expensive to use a lot of it, so I recommend using extra virgin olive oil or an olive oil jojoba blend instead. Either use a tiny bit just to smooth out some frizziness during the daytime, or apply a lot and let it soak in for a few hours (or better yet, overnight) before washing like normal. Burt's Bees also has a good deep conditioning treatment--the Avocado Butter hair creme. I disagree with the label's recommended instructions of applying it to wet hair for a minute before shampooing. Instead, I get about a tablespoon full of it, mix it with oil and/or conditioner, and apply it throughout my hair, concentrating on the ends. Wash like normal after letting it sit for a couple hours, and then hair is amazingly soft and shiny. Or I'll just rub a tiny amount between my palms and smooth into my hair while it's damp out of the shower.

Ursula, you must trim off the damage as it only continues uo the hair shaft.
then get rid of teh Pantene and any other styling product with "-cones"
use baby shampoo if you have to.
What country do you live in amd what is your weather like?

Look at your diet there might be a problem there! Trying L'Oreal Elvive Strengthening shampoo and conditioner (its bright yellow), the products in that range are fantastic.

Sure, I just wanted to explain why I've opened this thead in this section ;)

No, I don't have oily hair, they are dry so I wash them on every third day.. So problem isn't in this :(

I live in Georgia. Here is max +37 in summer, min -2 in winter. Rainy and sunny days are equell..

Dear Arlia, you have very wonderful hair! it would be better if you cut the ends to save healthy ones.
Dear witch, I don't take any diet. I don't have extra weight so I eat anything I like, however I try to eat healthy food. I don't drink cola, don't tend to mc.donaldsc etc.. So I don't think the problem is in less of vitamins..

So.. I just know that the reason is pantene.. Thank you for helping! I'll try to use something natural, made by natural ingredients.. blah, another problem is that I can't throw pantene unless it endes, 'cause here I have special situation: I got 2 bottles of really german product, which cost high, 'cause I pasted my exams well and father made me this gift (he knew I was crazy of healthy hair). Product comes here from russia, which cost low and is low-qualified... My pantene is real pantene I can't throw it :( damn.. I must continue damaging my hair..

Thank you all for help very much!

That's interesting information. I've used Pantene for years, and it seems like although I rarely ever color my hair (and if I do I use Natural Instincts) or use any styling products, I take vitamins and wear my hair back a lot (only with cloth covered bands), I end up with a lot of split ends. My hair seems to grow quickly, but no matter how many times I trim the split ends off, they come right back. My hair is to the middle of my back.

I used Aveda before, but it's kind of costly for a small amount and I wasn't sure if I noticed much difference. Then again, maybe I didn't give it enough time. I seem to be addicted to Pantene products for some reason.

Do they make it for fine hair, like a thickening shampoo and conditioner? I might have to try that if they do.

Fayeautumn, a beautiful sister with beautiful long hair gave me this advise. It may help you too. The problem with mine is it grows so very slow. Love&light&luck with the hair~*

The trick to having long hair is that you have to trim it every now an then. Once the end goes brittle and deadlike, it stunts the growth of hair some. The best time to trim is a week to two weeks before the full moon. While the moon is building it helps your hair grow also. I only cut my hair once during this time and have not cut it since ( I need a trim), though I cut off quite a bit (over a foot). but if you cut your hair after the full moon, it will slow it down greatly and makes it grow at a snail pace.
    The moon has powerful magic.
(and I agree with her on that!)

I never brush my hair, haven't in years. Try using a big-toothed comb when you comb your hair...especially when its wet. I have used many different shampoos and really can't tell much difference, a good conditioner is important though. I truly think its all in the combing, be gentle don't force the comb through your hair, take your time!
