SWIM has the opportunity to buy some Iboga root, but dosent know weather to get it or not. I know it is used in medical clinics to help cure opiate addiction, and I know it was used by the Natives of Centeral Africa in a 'coming of ages' ceremony. But havnt read many repots of its recreational use. Some of the repots on erowid are interesting, most tell of overwhealming introspective thoughts and almost spiritual revelations, and apparently it can last up to 30 hours and is accompanied by many negative side effects including numbness of skin and mouth, nausea etc.. Has anyone here tried it? Anyone want or not want to try it and reasons why...
i've never tried it, personally. i am aware of the uses you already mentioned, and from what i understand, ibogaine is typically ritualistic/medicinal as opposed to recreational. it seems like the kind of thing that a person would try in the context of a ceremony (either traditional or personal) or to overcome addiction. i wouldn't buy iboga root to casually try- if i ever decide to use it, i'd approach it like i would ayahuasca- very seriously. acid, mushrooms can go either way, and even have spiritual/recreational value in the same experience... but there are some psychedelics that seem to hold a value that makes recreational use unrewarding/difficult. that's just my (inexperienced) opinion, and as i haven't tried DMT/iboga/etc i don't know if any of that is at all true, but based on the ritual tradition and reported experience of these drugs, i'd personally find it hard to do them "casually" (unlike, as i mentioned, LSD and the like... and "casual" is a loose term here). i don't know how seriously you take your drugs or rituals, but as a drug ibogaine is interesting enough, if you're up to it you should try it...
only way id ever approach iboga is through a bwiti initiation ceremony. and even then id feel the need to undergo lots of cleansing and meditating for a while before hand. it is a big deal to be using these kinds of plants. iboga especially if for no other reason than the dose could potentially be fatal. i personally think its unwise to expiriment with certain plants without the guidance of an expirienced shaman. i do have an interest in iboga myself, but for now its just going to be an interest. maybe some day ill buy a plane ticket to africa. im sure it would be worth the effort to do so.
I have a deep respect for rituals and ceremonys involving psychedelic drugs, and am cautious in approaching Iboga because of the immense power it posesses. But just because it has no (very little) history of recreational use, dosent mean it cant be used just for 'fun' People drink beer till they puke and drive cars really fast and call it it 'fun' but I dont. Of course im not going to jump right in the deep end and take a large dose.. just yet, If I do decide to buy Iboga (its fairly expensive) then I would start with a lower dose and work my way up. I usualy apprach my trips with an open mind, with no specific expectations or goals, that way I find the trip 'fun' but if the plant decides to take me on a spiritual and/or introspective journey, then I can also embrace it.
hmm, ok well it looks as though Iboga is out of my price range at the moment. 1 gram of pure ibogaine costs $260 (US) as does 50g of rootbark.
its expensive! no doubt. a friend of mine tried it at a gathering and enjoyed it. this is a deep drug that lasts though, far moreso than cacti and shrooms. just prepare yourself
