http://www.unm.edu/~humanism/socvsjes.htm This is funny. It's long, but it's funny. Just a long conversation between them, where Socrates asks questions about Jesus's faith.
sounds like the conversations i had with my old pastor...... id like to hear what people think about this...
the essenes, who almost certainly inspired, if not outright created, "jesus", were almost certainly familiar with the writtings of plato, and thus quite probably with socraties and the socratic method. =^^= .../\...
Whoever was writing this did a piss-poor job. Socrates makes too many declaratory statements. Socrates asked questions and pointed out logical flaws through questions more than through declaration. Also, Socrates just left in the end?! That's a direct breach of his character. Soccy always stuck around until the fight was over. Euthyphro was the one who ran off in the middle of a discussion, and Soccy chided him for it, and rightly, too. Also, I don't think Jesus would have said that the purpose of human life was to serve god, that's inconsistent with his philosophy.
You probably dont see the point because there isn't really a point to be seen. I mean, I can understand making Jesus into an unlikeable character for anti-christian reasons... but doing the same to Socrates makes this a polorizing, humorless document.
socraties never asserted anything, nor took any side. he simply questioned everything and questioned everything and questioned everything. he was simply the universal streightman for every assertion to beat its head against. it is precisely because human patience is far from infinite that he was sentenced to die. whether or not he deserved to is left to the observer. i don't think he did, and i don't see a whole lot of use, let alone reason to trust, those who did, but that is my assertion which i'm equaly sure socrates would have questioned it, just like any other. i haven't been to the site this thread points to, but from what has been said so far here, it does sound rather like a complete wast of webspace and time. =^^= .../\...
