I see. I guess a Christian is as a Christian does so doctrine isn't the end of the world. Even Nicodemus visited Jesus in private because he was terrified of the high priests and what they would do to him, but when push came to shove he was there to help bury Jesus.
If you don't believe in god then why would you want to read the bible the bible was written by man and therefore god is a figment of our imaginations.
Even if you don't believe in God, the Bible is still a book worth studying because of it's impact on humanity and history. Understanding the Bible can help explain modern life and things like the justice system. Should be required reading imo, especially for atheists if they want to disprove Christianity. Also if billions of people claimed something true then wouldn't it be worth investigating? Scientific theories are also discovered or 'written' by man, does not mean that anything said by man is automatically false.
Well I was baptized as a catholic, so I know a lot about the bible, but I just don't really feel like sitting down and reading the whole thing word for word.
Me too, raised as a Catholic, received first communion and confirmation, et al. The Bible is a huge book with lots going on in it's pages so I can relate. I have found the New Living Translation to be helpful because it helps explain the passages as it translates it.
Kind of like that, but without John (not a synoptic and all). It is a bit easier to navigate than on the CPU because you cannot accidentally scroll one and not the others. Clicking on the little books helps, but ultimately a hard-copy is awesome (throws in other footnotes as well).
OH MY!!! I cannot believe you would say you "know a lot about the bible" and in the same sentence indicate you have not felt like sitting down and... Unreal. There is nothing, no book nor a subject, I would claim to know a dadblame thing about if I had not read the book AND done at least some research into. Sorry...that just blows my mind.
Hmm, interesting. CPU copies give me a headache, nothing beats the real thing. I'll check em out, thnx
Because I do believe in God and thus the Bible authored by and then God would not be a figment of our imaginations.
LOL...I'm sorry...I just find that wording so funny, I needed to repeat it. Hey, I'm not catholic; but, I can't say I don't believe in transubstantiation... I can (and do) say that beyond a shadow of a doubt that I believe in miracles...and that they happen in this day and age.
superstition,, and the "God" that is a "Ghost" Modern Christianity has made such a "Spook" out of the Spirit that God remains objective and outward, and the bible has become simply a book of the law.
