So why do you think the political system is so fucked up? Is it greed and powerlust? Is it the lobbyists? Is it that capitalism has all but wiped out democracy? Is it the drug war? Is it the religious right? Is it the military establishment?

    or is it...

    The people?

My humble view of the big picture is that the root of our biggest problems in this young society of ours is...simply...ignorance.

The American people, as a whole, are incredibly fucking ignorant. Most people can't point to other countries on a globe. Most people don't know the names of their own congressmen. Hell, most people can't name a congressman. Too many people can't even put a correct sentence together. Most Americans are caught up in their own little lives, that they give little or no thought to what goes on in the rest of the world. Most people believe that the popular news media outlets are giving them the unbiased truth about national and world affairs.

How do we end up with the jackasses that we do in elected office? We end up with them because the vast majority of voters have little or no information about the people they vote for. They align with a political party (usually the same as their parents) and they vote by the Ds and Rs. But they can be easily persuaded by simple propaganda. They don't know any better because they are products of a failed education system. They believe whatever they see on their TV screens because they have never learned how to think critically. They see a political ad and think they have been informed.

I could go on and on about this, but, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I hate long posts. You know, I used to be down with Jefferson. True Democracy, I said. Let the mob rule. But as I continue to observe the consequences of an uneducated public, I'm starting to slide over towards Hamilton. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that only white male land owners should vote.

But maybe we should offer higher education as a free service, and allow only the educated to vote.

Want to know a fun fact? While all the schools in the country are suffering from massive budget cut backs, and the education offered at these schools is of extremely low quality, all the schools in the rich neighborhoods are top notch, because the parents donate to the school.

Trust me, I know, I moved from a relatively poor area a little while ago to a multi millionaire area. It's intentional.

the middle class is slowly but efficiently being wiped out.

If only the rich are educated, it is a lot easier for them to control everyone else.

Also, the right is basically intent merely on making the rich richer, the poor poorer, and destroying the middle class. Want to know why the also promote banning gay marriage, abortion, gun de regulation, lowering taxes, and other so called traditional values? To get the vote of the ignorant.

Could you imagine how different elections might turn out of everyone who could legally vote actually did?

With the advent of electronic voting and easier vote rigging, increased numbers wouldnt necessarily change the inevitable outcomes. Until corporate influence of our entire political system is ended it is corporate interest alone which will prevail.

The political system is fucked up for many different reasons and on many different levels.

First off, one of the problems is capitalism as a whole. Capitalism is in no way true democracy, and never will be. Throw in many other factors and then add human stupidity to the mix, and there you have it-- our society today!

Yes, I would agree that one of the root factors is human ignorance. People are completely ignorant on political issues, whether they be domestic or foreign. They have little idea of what is really going on in our world today, and most honestly don't care. People are selfish and greedy. They care only about their own trivial lives and have no concern for others or what goes on in the world if it does not somehow directly involve them. I agree, ignorance is not bliss. But so many people today mistakenly think so. There are more and more taking comfort in their ignorance and turning their faces in the midst of truth. Their pathetic minds can't handle it. Well I for one am tired of it. It's time humanity had a reality check.

Jesus fucking christ... If only more people would get off their lazy asses and get involved, maybe they would realize....
But, then again, that would require turning off the damn TV and using their minds for once... something they have probably long forgotten how to do.

Today our political system is in terrible shape and people are as ignorant as ever, but no one seems to care. It's time for something to happen. The oppurtunities are there.
Sitting around complaining about the ignorant is not going to do a thing. We need to take a stand. Educate them.. Open their eyes..
C'mon people, what are we waiting for?

I completely agree ignorance is not bliss in the least bit. I am trying to change that every chance I get. It isn't just in politics though. The sad thing is I see adults who don't care if they know how to spell or not because "they are not being graded on it". That concept blows my mind.

I don't only place the blame on the citizens though, I believe the dumbing down of America is actually a plan set forth by the government. It is much easier to control people who are not smart enough to fight back. I mean the government regulates what we can teach and learn in schools. The goverment regulates the drugs that we are allowed to take and tells us what diseases we have (even if we don't have them). The government regulates everything that we see and hear (even if you still believe in freedom of speech). The government is constantly telling us, we need to change, and I have no idea why, but the people do it. They are molding us.

I'll post more later. boss is coming.
