I just walked up to the QT Station to grab a breakfast burrito and shake and on my way out this lady was trying to hawk a gold chain to me for gas money. I just gave her five dollars instead I feel so good
Dark, my child - You have made me very proud today. I love you. When you die on that operation table, soon enough, I will have a special place for you. You will not have to clean my toilet as all the others do upon entering heaven.
You gave money to a person? That makes you feel so special? I give money to beggers everyday... and I do not see myself as a kind of superior being just because of it. It was a good deed, give yourself a pat on the back... but flounting it like that, you give me the impression that you wasnt to be praised for the "generous deed" you have done.
GAS MONEY?? Ha! That's the oldest scam in the book! I have been known to cave and give into people asking for money, but I need money myself. It would be nice if almost everyone was so rich they could just go around handing money out to everyone that asks for it, but that's not the way the world works, unfortunately. There is this one magazine/news store I sometimes go to which is in the heart of the city, and almost every time I park my car, some homeless-looking person comes up to me before I can even open my door and asks for money. I usually give them a buck or two, but never anything more than that. Chances are they're just going to buy booze or drugs with it, which is what I would do if I was living on the streets.
matt, please don't give the downtown panhandlers money. they're agressive enough as it is & that just encourages them. i have a friend who's quite active with food not bombs. you're really not helping them when you give money to panhandlers. if they ask for food, and i can afford it, i'll offer to get them food. once a woman came up to me and said she was thirsty. she was obviously homeless. she said she didn't want money or food, she just wanted some water or something. i think we bought her some ice tea, because i respected her honesty. if they say they want the money for food and they won't accept the food itself, you just know they're buying drugs or booze with it. many people are driven to homelessness through circumstance, especially since social services have been so thoroughly screwed up in places by "reforms" and not enough alternatives are effectively functioning for those truly in crisis. but many, many people are on the streets because of addictions. feeding the addiction just keeps them on the streets. i'm always civil to them, but i don't give them money.
Dark - Don't thou mind the envious other people. That five bucks you gave to her will be in your permanent file. These fuckers that envy you? It will be in their permanent file too. I don't believe some of them in what they sayeth. Believe me, I can feel shit when there is shit. Some children here think that God was born yesterday. They are gonna have a bad surprise when they croak and come up here...
it will be rather hard for hi to find the ass.... unless you do reconstructive eyte surgery up there... I must die soon for Ray Charles... so is thespark.com true...i'm actually going to be abducted by aliens?
I dont feel special or superior. I'm just saying it felt good to help someone who needed it damn. I helped push their car by the pump cause it wouldnt start, but I guess they got it rigged to choke the fuel line right? Geez, I just felt like sharing that it felt good to help someone in a pinch. Fucks sake you guys can get hostile
Dude, so fucking what if they're buying drugs or booze with it? If I was in that situation, that's probably what I'd fucking buy with it too. I love how people don't give money to "bums" because they figure they're helping them by denying them drugs and shit. Ya know...drugs are pretty damn important to a druggie. Either give them money freely and let them do what they will with it, or just ignore them. But I hate when people play the "holier than thou" card and make it their decision to allow someone to drug up or drink...
What you do with opportunities that are sent to you is a personal thing. I view it as a blessing when I can help someone, I have been on the recieving end of it also, when I was a runaway, I panhandled, and I WAS hungry, I was also thankful for any way that some one helped me.... If anyone is worried that the money will be spent on things other than food...go to the local fast food and get some 1.00 coupons and hand them out. It is nice that you were able to help, and in giving we are also recieving, the chance to be non-judgmental, give the gift and walk away, you put it out there, now it is up to them to make their choices. Kindness is never wrong.
i don't ignore them, i politely say no, sorry, have a nice day. it's nicer. but i don't see why i should pay for their drugs or booze when i don't know how i'm going to pay for next week's groceries, let alone my own beer. unless of course you'd like to mail me your spare change...
So you didn't take the chain? Good deed, man! Good karma is coming your way. You got a shit load of it on the way, man.
