Im 19 years old and im finaly leaving society. I used to post on this forum quite a bit but i stopped for a very long time. I will be on the road/earth for many years and hope to stay with many farms and communes and trade labour for a place to stay and some food. i will go through hell to see some complete euphoric bliss in the human natural state of mind. Now for people who have done this do you have any tips or suggestions for me? and for people who have been thinking about doing this or are currently doing this i would love to meet you and have a conversation. peace and love Jaren
Get at least two pay as you go cell phones... Hide one in your shit and NEVER tell anyone you have it. Even with no time, you can still call emergency lines with them. The second one, make sure it has a camera on it. Set up a picassa or photobucket site so you can upload pics to it when you have access to the net. Also, keep an address/contact book with you and keep track of people you meet. When I was hitching across the country when I was younger, I met tons of cool people, that at the least, I would have liked to know what happened to them, but can't even remember their names...
very cool man power to you just know that it will get harder and harder in the beginning but it is well worth it if you stick to it
More power to you; I'm still hoping to do something similar. Someday. I'll echo the sentiment that you should set up an easy-to-access online presence just to upload random photos and bits of text here and there; if for nothing else than for your own benefit later on.
Go to the library and begin reading every book you can on everything you can From tree identification to wild edibles to primitive skills to the physics of severing wood fibres, the more you know, the easier it will be. But then again it doesnt sound like you want to leave society seeing as you say you will be on the road and working, You are more asking for tips on living as a nomad? how to hitchhike better? Begin learning how to make traps or get a bow and begin hunting small game, if you can feed yourself then you pretty much have the 'hard' part out of the way. Start drinking water from streams and infect yourself with shit like giardia now, because you would rather suffer the adaption process in comfort than outside in the cold haha. Its really not that hard living outdoors, if you're willing to make some "sacrifices"
cool dude, Ive been looking to do somthing similar at the end of april, i live in white rock bc and think it would be cool to find someone leaving from bc. I really just wanna travel for the rest of my life.
Yes I can't wait. I definatly should have read more about edible wild plants and foods. I want to become one with nature and live like a human being. Where abouts is white rock?
Man I'm way down in Alabama and have been concidered this many times. I got a whole survival kit put together and go out for little week long excursions in national parks, or just rural areas and everything, kinda an adaptation process. My problem right now is im completely broke and owe my state about 4k in legal bullshit, and I dont exactly want to be a running fugitive at the same time. As far as advice, get you a good kit together to be prepared for worse case scenarios. Dont forget about winter. The camera, cell and journal suggestions are top notch. Going around living with communes and doing general labor is good, but remember, its not so common these days so you need to know what to do if you get stuck between places. I'd suggest finding different communes and such to kinda aim your direction towards, and slowly work your way around. I've been researching places to go, and trying to prepare for a long time, just because when I do become nomad, I dont want to fail because of a stupid error. I'd love to meet up with you sometime whenever we do start roaming! Man after I chop my girls this autum, Ima be all set to head out. Good luck with your preparations and journey, keep in touch.
Good point on preparing for the worst, pay attetion to your surroundings because you dont want to set up camp on a flood plane or somthing horrible like that. Spend as little mone as possible obviously. Emergency money is good to have, but not always possible. Dogs are good to have for company and protection but can make it harder to hitch hike. Thats all i got for now.
