I'm going to be homeless for a week this summer.

I'm going to live on the streets. It's an experiment i'm trying. I'll live and mingle with other homeless people for a week.

 

some homeless people might become angry with that experiment... be careful too... you never know who youll be sleeping next to

But yeah, you're not gonna want to mention that you're doing the experiment. Are you a chick? If so you might want to take some precautions, like, a knife fighting class or something.

Is there a defined purpose of the experiment?

 

Most homeless people are very nice, but definitely not all. They're a lively, entertaining crowd for sure.
If you have liquor and cigarettes to share they will love you.

Avoid the tweakers.

Having a large knife/gun/german shepherd visible at all times will be essential to success.

I want to write a book about it to shed awareness on the issue. Id keep a diary on everything that happens, starving, violence, how cold it is...you get the drift. I know some homeless people might be thinking....wtf id love to have a nice home to go to. But, we can help each other. Fingers crossed I don't get raped or stabbed. I live in a pretty safe city but downtown is downtown. I think it will teach me alot, ive had things handed to me my entire life. Basically, it's not like I get everything I want but ive never gone hungry.

Are you sure a week is enough time to write a book on the issue? Margaret Mead spent about that much time in Samoa and talked to the Natives and lived that life and they just lied to her the whole time and she's a famous anthropologist.

Who knows though regardless if you get a true glimpse into their life maybe it will make you successful.

 

Not to be sexist, but why do it? It's not the homeless who are going to fuck with you (literal or not), but some dude's gonna force you into his car or some shit and you're going to wish you hadn't done it.

Get a guy friend to be homeless with you or something... This just sounds like you're asking for something bad to happen.

 

its good you want to try the experiment . the previous poster is right get a guy friend to tag along with you. i would hate anything bad to happen to you.

True a week probably isn't long enough. Maybe afew weeks would be more reasonable.

 

It will definetly be dangerous, ill see if I can recruit a male friend but I doubt anyone will be lined up to be homeless with me. I'll have to take precautions.

Storyline: Parents found out you caught some STD like Hepatitis C and threw you out.

This will #1 be a believable situation and #2 will put you off limits from being any sort of sex object in the minds of those you mingle with.

I do really like the idea of you having a "Big Brother" figure to accompany you for this trip, but in the event it doesnt work out, just a word of advice from one who's been there and not in a "Lab setting" capacity.

Folks on the street typically have nothing, to get their basic needs many of them adopt hustling and con games as a way to get what they want. Listen to their stories by all means but do not try to take one home and "fix them", they are not Puppy dogs although many can make big sad puppy dog eye's, it's only to get whatever sort of Scooby Snack they're after at the moment, be it a Big Mac, a bottle of Jim Beam or your Hoo Hoo.

And I'm not so much saying this for your sake as I think you've got pretty good common sense for the most part, but more for anyone else reading this thread who thinks "Hey, that would be a cool way to dodge my Parents for a while."
