I spent like 20+ hours traveling here, and met up with my biological father and his girlfriend. I'm in Bangkok right now, and I must say that it is absolutely breath-taking. I enrolled in this 10-day meditation course, called Vipassanna, which should be a trip. You eat vegetarian and meditate for 10 days straight, with almost no talking. I'm pretty stoked. I'll keep you guys posted. :cheers2:
id be the one in the circle or whatever to just burst out laughing over something comepletly stupid that happened years ago or while stoned
Yeah, thats a big thing on my mind right now... I dont want to spend the rest of my life in a Thai prison. That wouldn't be very fun. Ever seen Ganja Queen? Its about this girl who allegedly was smuggling marijuana from eastern Asia and they caught her and sentenced her to life imprisonment. My dad offered to buy my girlfriend a ticket out here so she could spend like 10 days with us. She seems reluctant though, because she says she needs to find a job... And she is afraid of Asian people...
that ganja queen story is terrible. i will never vacation, donate money/supplies, or have anything to do with that shit hole country that that happened it. scum bags. they found who put it in her bag too, and they still locked her up.
thailand is a gorgeous country and it is so full of culture. but the laws are hardcore. you have one shot and that is it.
If you're not silly you can get away with pretty much what you please though better outside of Bangkok and not on any of the touristy islands. Towards Cambodia like places around Buriram and Surin I had no hassles with pot and opium being fairly open... The amphetamine and magic mushroom cocktails appear to be quite legal and readily available in many places too... Bangkok is a bit too hectic for me and everyone walking down the street seems to think your name is Taxi but it's definitely good fun. I went on a Vipassna retreat years ago but it was in rainy wales heh. Not really my cup of tea but a good learning experience nonetheless and something I'd do again if in the right frame of mind.. Shame your girlfriend isn't with you, how crazy to turn down such an amazing opportunity for free. Enjoy your trip!
yeah don't do anything there that you'd do here if you want to leave with both your hands, so i've heard.
^ Why on earth would you think that? Is the view from the US really that all non white countries are the same with regards to laws and customs? Nowhere in south east asia do they cut people's hands off... The only place I can think of where that kind of thing occasionally goes on is Saudi Arabia etc, but the Saudis are quite pally with the US, despite 9/11 etc.. Thailand they have the death penalty for smuggling category 1 drugs, but most often this is not used, merely long prison stretches (and you don't want to end up in a Thai prison). Besides, you can bribe your way out of most possession charges, though not necessarily cheaply. The US state believes it has the right to kill its citizens still and has the death penalty including for 'drug trafficking resulting in death' in CT so it's not a thousand worlds apart, yaknow. Anyway, mad fire in Bangkok nightclub on NYE, hope the OP was not around! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7807202.stm
if you've been following that story at all, or have seen that documentary you'd know what i'm talking about. i believe that they FOUND the people who are responsible and that bitch ass overlord still won't lift the sentence. what if it were you? what if you were sentenced to TWENTY YEARS of your life in a shithole prison because some jackass airline worker decided to gamble with your bags? what if during your trial in this corrupt, disgusting country there were citizens pickiting "KILL [YOUR NAME]!"? never will i ever have anything to do with that hell hole...
Are you guys talking about that girl in time whos boyfriend was a drug lord or something? bring me up to speed, thats all I know about it.
Some interesting experiences... I met a Thai transvestite. I saw a badass fire show. Met this Alaskan girl named felicity that lives on a boat. Uh... I fell on my motorbike today! It was quite scary, I was going down a hill with a turn at the bottom of it, and took it way too fast, I started to lose control, and almost recovered, but I fell on my left side, and scraped about a there inch square patch of skin from my left knee, and cut up my foot and scratched my arm up. The lady who was riding on the back was much more fortunate, as she only got a minor scrape on her side. I am quite gratefull, as it could have been much worse, and I was much more concerned about my passenger than myself. While I was falling, everything seemed to be going in slow motion, and when I first started losing control, I was like "oh, shit we're about to eat it!" all in all it was w very shocking experience, and I was shaking for quite some time after. My father took me and his client (who was on the back) to the clinic to get or cuts diainfected. It was quite the experience.
