I like a to drink. Have done for 20 years. My insides have been feelin' a bit funny recently. I had a blood/liver function test and everything came back normal. But I definitely think I should cut down. I tend drink lots of water and other fluids - could this be helping to stop the effects of too much alcohol - or am I kidding myself?
I have cut way back on my drinking. I used to drink every night I had off from work. I did drink a six-pack of Sierra Nevada last Sunday night, but that was the first alcohol that I had in a couple months. I am off again tonight, but I don't plan on drinking again for a while. I am too focused on my fitness to be drinking all the time. I want to have ripped abs, and that won't happen if I drink. But when summer gets here, I will definitely be imbibing in some quality brews. In the meantime, I will just continue smoking and vaping my weed. I am sure I've given my liver a good workout over the last 15 years, though. But, fortunately, I am still in excellent health.
it helps with the hangovers. i doubt it has anything to do with the amount of effort your liver has to make.
I think it depends mostly on the person. It's like the people who smoke for 80+ years and live until they're 100. Some people's bodies are just more resilient than others. I am sure genetics has something to do with it.
Well, I was hoping it would be flushing my system : / This is not good news. What I guess I meant was... Imho, people that are alcoholics tend not to look after themselves. Alcohol is one of the only substances that is entering their body. That isn't true in my case. I don't drink all day long. It's probably about 4 hours out of 24. I guess if I'm constantly stoking the fire of my engine it will eventually pack up no matter how much I'm oiling the wheels... ( that was painful) The NHS recommends you lay off for a couple of days a week.
Yeah, you're kidding yourself there. That said, I doubt that funny feeling has anything to do with your drinking. If you think you need to cut down then more power to ya though
duuude, you are so much kidding yourself....or you have a different definition of what an alcoholic is. although almost everyone has a different definition. i personally and from the small posts here think you are the same is what you would call a functioning alcoholic. we look at others who drink and see them miss work and fall asleep in a gutter and say "damn that guy drinks too much" there are some people "who i found out through a dui before i learned to control my drinking" that think if you have 2 beers a day that you are an alcoholic. to me this is just funny because i would never get drunk if i had two every day. what kind of alcoholic never gets drunk? and mentioned above is the person who dosnt get in trouble every time they drink but every time they get in trouble they are drunk. and those are the people that need to cut out the drinking in their lives. as for the health issues i personally believe that genetics is about 90% of it. either your family has strong livers or they dont. if the doc says yours dont then you are wise to cut way back. what i did before i lost my job was drank once on the weekdays (whichever one i was in the mood for) and twice on the weekends (including friday) although when i lost my job i ran through a slight depression and said fuck it and drank when i felt like it.
The 'funny feeling' is like the sound of plumbing in an old building. Even if it's nothing related - I think it's wise to take it as a sign. Yeah, it wouldn't do me any harm to cut down - I tend to drink HSL and don't want to end up like this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/cont...n_superstrength_alcohol_s13_w10_feature.shtml
pensfan13 I think I was definitely a functioning alcoholic about 10 years ago. I've definitely taken control of that. I just don't think if you drink more than the average person you are an alcoholic. Far too much of my money goes on booze, though.
If you drink every day I think that is a problem, even if you don't wake up and crack open a beer. I've been around a lot of alcoholics during my life so I'm more cautious with alcohol than some, so perhaps others would define an alcohol problem differently. I've always been careful, since it runs in my family and I have noticeable tendencies, to space out my drinking. I don't ever drink two days in a row, for example.
I just stopped. I still drink, but once a week maybe. I just don't crave it so much anymore. I'm glad I did it on my own terms. Good luck Odon. You just gotta find other things to do. Even if it means coming here less. Hipforums is a trigger for me.
drinking 4 hours a day sounds like a problem to me. you could try taking this online quiz http://www.nhsinform.co.uk/health-zones/alcohol/ I scored 10, which means I should cut down, which I have, though I still drink every day. my liver's okay at the moment, but like you say the advice is to not drink 2-3 times a week. think about why you drink, and then look for healthier alternative ways to occupy your time, and good luck.
