    1. if obama is elected he will be a one term president. and if he is not, he will just give republicans something to rally around, they have lost most of their energizing causes.

    2. mccain won't be able to do much of anything his first two years anyway because the dem house and senate.

    3. unfortunately either one who wins will just polarize american's against the other of the two parties, very few more will begin to say "screw this shit, I'm voting for nader" or whomever

    4. I just can't bring myself to vote for obama.

    5. if russia gets really into it mccain will start the war now, obama will wait until the next presidency so it's not his fault, during that time, if things keep going this way, america will be on a worse war footing, and russia, a far better one.

    6. if I don't vote for mccain I'm voting for nader anyway, which might as well be a vote for mccain.

I know all of these points are refutable, and most of them are based on speculation, but right now, I don't think either candidate is worth his shoes. and the one that will piss off the people who want change more, is more likely to force change closer.

There is an old saying "A vote for McSame is a vote for a dictatorship"
Rember McCane is the same guy who gave military secrets to the North Vietnamese with out being tortured.

I found out today that I have the same birth date as John McCain. Only he is 48 years older. (That's so creepy!)

He left his first wife after she became crippled and fat. Good guy, that McCain. He's run a quiet, vaguely incompetent campaign so far. I can't see why you'd vote him.

According to the Drudge Report this morning, McCain has a five point lead over Obama. Surprising, considering all the media fanfare for Obama. I have been saying that Obama would win, but now it's hard to say. Again, not that it really matters or that these polls are even accurate.

It is almost foreordained that McCain will win. How the Dems ever thought anyone with the name Obama could be elected in today's climate is beyond me.

What would be funny is if he chose Cheney to be Vice President. Then things could really escalate.

long term goals. if obama wins it is probable that there will be violent backlash to the right next election, if mcoldguy wins there wil be even more outcry for change, this is why nader is running again, to tank the dems because they need to change, because americans need to change, and because the path we go down by wanting republicans as an option is really dangerous and destructive.

basically, I do think matt is right though, they're the same, obama is the most incredibly fake politician I've ever seen, mcjackass has surrendered by so many degrees over the years any honor he had at any point in his life is gone, but it doesn't matter that they are the same because the american people think there is a difference.

So... you're voting for McCain because you want to provoke change and public outcry?

    That makes no sense.

He does make a point, though I don't really support what he's saying. At least under McCain you'll still be able to question things without the race card being played. Also, I think Obama will carry out almost the exact same policies as Bush and McCain anyway. If Obama is elected, most of his supporters will become silent, even though he supports many of the same policies as the current administration. I can easily see the Democrats supporting war under a Democratic president, much like they supported Clinton's atrocities in Sudan and Kosovo. If McCain is elected, at least the Left will remain somewhat critical of government policies.

Ultimately, it really makes no real difference who wins.

It's a hell of an interesting question. I think intellectually either could win but my gut says Obama will win up against McCain. And obviously Obama wouldn't readily fix McCain's problems with his whole party hating him - as his pundits all think he's a quack. The people who hate McCain do not hate Obama a thousands times worse. Half of them have a crush on Obama, it's a Republican Obama man-crush or woman-crush. I assume that the majority of females who voted for Clinton would have a tendency to favour Obama.

There was something David Brooks wrote about Obama that I loved, the idea of the current generation and the early 60s generation teaming up on the late 60s hippies for a less self-centered and self-indulgent variety of liberalism.

I know this isn't an intelligent political response...but damn, if they're both the same, at least Obama is easier on the eyes. McCain just makes me shudder...with his warbled, hesitating speach. :(

Even if you don't see Obama as the Christ, he does represent something that is important enough to me to try to get him into office: He's not a baby-boomer.

They've held the reigns way too long in this country -- culturally, economically, politically -- and they need to step aside. Everything they touch turns to shit. There are too many of them, and they're self-obsessed, materialistic, wasteful and self-righteous. It's their way or the highway and the rest of us (and our children) will have to clean up their mess for decades to come as they sap natural resources, make garbage, suck social security dry, lay waste pension coffers, exhaust funds from retirement medical programs for all their meds and adult diapers and viagra.

Obama at least would be a step toward getting them the hell out of the way. And it would snowball, as people became more comfortable with youth in power.

McCain would simply keep them -- and their twisted values -- in power that much longer. I think that would be immoral.

We can't let this opportunity pass by. The boomers are actually on the ropes and they know it. That's why it's getting nasty. It's not just a culture war, it's a generational war. McCain should be retired anyway. He's a kept man; let him go do dishes and chase saggy ass.

McCain will keep health care the way it is.
Obama will enrich the insurance industry, but the kids will get medicine.

    I'm voting for Obama.

Any sane voter would write their own name in for president.

That would cause a problem in the way things are.

Do you like the way things are?

A woman said to McCain today:
    McCains reply was:
If you are 18-26 years old, you should really think hard about who you are going to vote for.

Anyone writting in their own name or voting for Nader is ignoring the fact that either McCain or Obama is going to be the president.

Its a choice between bad and worse, but that's the choice that's avaliable.

If one wants to make a gesture, vote for Nader.
If you want to help decide who is going to be the next President, vote McCain or Obama.
