After last weekend where I spent $100 more than I wanted to out and about I decided to give myself an allowance. $50 a week for groceries, $20 a week for me. That should be more than enough. So today as I went grocery shopping I decided to get all vegan ingredients. As I walked into the store I asked for two green bags, the kind that you use over again. They cost 99cents each. Went through the store and got all my ingredients, put back the burgers I was going to get for my hubby b/c I remembered he already has 6 burgers in the fridge. By the end of it I spent $54.94. Impressed I walked to the checkout and validated the fact that 2 of those dollars went toward an eco friendly cause. Only $3 over. Not bad I might say. Once I started to checkout the cashier says "You've been randomly selected for an audit" (self scan groceries, they check now and then to make sure everyone is honest) with said audit gets you a $2 coupon. So my grand total was $50.94. I am proud, and it wasn't expensive to buy vegan ingredients. The stars just had it out for me to be vegan I think. That had to be the most happy visits to the grocery store I've ever had, everything just seemed to go right, probably b/c my heart is now in the right place. Or maybe I am just weird.
Vegan and vegetarian lifestyles are always much cheaper, until you begin to buy those soy protein burgers and stuff, which are still probably cheaper than meat. Like mince is about $7 per kilo, then TVP would be $3 per kilo and on top of that you add water, so really your getting 3 kilos or so. I personally prefer the taste too. So will you be staying vegan? Veganism takes way too much commitment for me
It doesn't make sense for me not to really. I'm lactose intollerant and eggs make me sick too. The only thing I can see getting snagged on is having those things as ingredients. Once I sat down and really thought about it a lot of the stuff I ate with these as ingredients made me feel not quite right too. I think I will be doing myself a favor if I become and stay a vegan.
