So I just started taking Yaz and I've been on it 8 days now.

I was supposed to start taking it the first day of my period...but well, it never came. I've been terribly irregular lately. That's one of the main reasons I got on the pill!

Anyway, so I told my gyno and she said to just start taking it so that at the end of the pack I would have a period. But I forgot to ask one VERY important thing...

I want to know when it's going to be safe for me to rely soley on Yaz for my method of contraception! HELP! I really really need to know!

You can start the pill anytime during the month. Usually your directions for use will tell you that.

ALWAYS USE SOME KIND OF OTHER PROTECTION, because you can STILL get pregnant on the pill. Ask some of the other mamas in here and in the real world, they'll tell you.

But it will take about a month for the pill to really kick in. To answer your question.

Even if she is on the pill, it's still 97-99 percent effective...not 100%...PLUS it doesn't protect against STD's.

i use just the pill. but for the first few weeks i used condoms to be safe waiting for it to kick in. but i also have had the same partner the whole time and he's been the only partner i've ever had. if you will be having more than one partner i would suggest using condoms. and even if you have the same partner both of you getting tested before not using condoms. if that makes any sense
