OK, so I've been growing my dreadlocks for 7 months now from backcombing.
I'm the type of guy that wants to have giant octopus dreads like Bob Marley has. You know, cobra thickness.
[Although I don't have Kinky hair like Bob does since I'm white... I have straight hair... regardless my goal is the same!]

SO FAR: I have 3 congos on my head. One of them is very big.. definitely a good size for how early I am in the process. The other two are just two dreads joined into one. I have a bunch of pre-congo's. You know like hair that's slightly knotted together and will eventually have lots of tangling going on.

HERES THE PART WHERE I WANT YOUR INPUT ON:
Since I want big thick dreads, would it be wisest to let them grow it as they please [which is what i've been doing since I started growing my dreads]
OR Should I give my dreads some "assistance" perhaps with beads to force them to congo to the size of my liking?

Also: Do dreadlocks get more thick the older they get?

I'm really not sure because I've seen people with superrrr mature locks that were skinny and I don't like those... I don't want those ropes. I want the COBRAS! The BIG DADDYS :D

Anyways... yea all feedback is appreciated

There's nothing wrong with helping your dreads along, if you see two of them that look like they could grow together, or you just want them too, go ahead and put a bead on and see what happens. But in the end your dreads are probably gonna do what they want to do. African hair is a lot different then caucasian, so you can't expect to get the same results.

Also you might wanna think about the fact that it is harder to clean/dry thicker locks and you have a greater chance of getting things stuck in them that you will never see again lol good luck :D

the type of locks that bob marley had were neglect. so, that's what you should do. leave them alone. they grow thicker as more dead hair is added.

uhm...if left to their own accord dreads will grow how they are intended to grow. This is just my opinion...but as Vig already mentioned...Bobs dreads grew neglect. From a Rasta viewpoint...[im not Rasta...not sure if you are...judging by your posts I dont think you are...so my inoput is prob meaningless but oh well]...your dreads will grow when you grow....spiritually that is. The thicker they are the more wisdom and life experience you should've accumulated... So....to say you want dreads like Bob...a man who grew his dreads purely for spiritual reasons...is kinda sacreligous...unless you are growing them for spiritual reasons as well. If thats the case then dont worry about it....work on your self and they will grow.

    shut up mandy

OP, all you have to do is stop messing with your hair. it will congo bongo on its own. however, bob had afro hair, which you don't have, so you probably won't have dreadlocks like bob.

Well first of all, I am a devote Christian and I consider my dreadlocks to be "neglect." I know I backcombed, but hey... my hair needed a little push in the right direction.. nothing wrong with that I think. Second, I started growing my dreadlocks in the name of the Nazerite vow. [Numbers:6]

In short, to think that I'm sacrelig based on my desire to have thick locks is ludacris.

Also, I've never heard of this equation before. Thicker dreads = More wisdom and life experience accumulated.

I'm not saying it's not true, I find that dreadlocks release a lot of energy, especially at certain points or during certain things.

However, from an opposing viewpoint.. I've seen some guys with very thick dreads who were just plain mean. Robbers, gangsters, thugs, etc. That just seems kind of counterproductive based on that equation mentioned earlier.

I just want to have thick locks like he did.
