I'm wondering what musicians may of hailed from your respective towns and cities? What makes me ask is I'm listening to Roxy Music at the minute and Bryan Ferry was born in Washington, Tyne & Wear where I live. Other than Ferry the group Your Code Name Is: Milo are from here aswell. I think that's about it for Washington! Sunderland and Newcastle are nearby, and I was born in Newcastle although I've always lived in Washy. Some other notibles from these parts... Dire Straits, Lindesfarne, The Futureheads...Oh, and, hmm, jimmy nail. Pete Doherty is from Hexham, but that's stretching 'my' town a bit!
um ... not many. the place i consider my hometown hailed: foreigner jars of clay and apparently Jay-Z lived with his grandma most of his life there (though he is technically from NYC) if i could i'd try to claim a few more that came from an hour from where i grew up like ani difranco
Wow, that's pretty cool, having Jay-Z. And there was me throwing Dire Straits in thinking I was all that
was born and lived in liverpool for 1st seven years of my life cant think of anyone of note to come from the lakes though
We have one band, made it quite big...It Bites...hailed from Egremont. Still going, though minus Francis Dunnery now. Google them...you might remember.
lisa scott lee from steps hails from where i live hehe also carol vorderman, not that shes a musician
Dave Stewart and The Tourists - then becoming Eurythmics. The Toy Dolls, 80's punk band, Angelic Upstarts (S. Shields). Are you sure Brian Ferry was born in Washington? I heard he came from Durham. He's been one of those people who has lived in the areas of the N.E. where those telling the tale come from, but who knows. I'm sure there's more..........Didn't know that toffy nosed prick Pete Doherty came from Hexham, thought him a home counties ponce.
You legend, I love Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music!!! I don't think anyone famous has come from Crediton, but if you're from Devon, you tend to know somebody who is friends with somebody who is friends with somebody that knows Joss Stone. Matt Bellamy from Muse was taught by my old music lecturers at Exeter College.
I was born in Sunderland, although I'm not all that famous to be honest.... Leatherface are from Sunderland, and I'm sure everybody knows Sting is from Wallsend...
It's a great little place, much closer and friendlier than the rest of the forums. I'm sure you'll have fun posting here
As I understand, back when Ferry was born Washington was part of County Durham. It joined up with Sunderland when Sunderland made their bid to become a city, 15 years ago or so. Bit crap in a way because it meant the local council changed from Durham to S'Land too. Bryan Ferry went to Washington School that's for sure.
Jane McDonald came from Wakefield, about seven miles from here. There was also a band called Child that had a couple of hits in the 70s or 80s, one of them reaching number one I think. They were from my hometown, went to the same school as me and stuff. Speaking of Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler spent some time living in Leeds, 14 miles from here And speaking of Leeds, plenty of bands come from there. Can't be arsed listing 'em though.
My Town was the birthplace of the Cure and two members of the feeling attended St Wilfred's school. Such Great Bands, shame about the people that live there!
