Anyone know what causes insomnia? I didn't sleep at all last night and I feel so pumped with adrenalin right now that I doubt I will catch much more sleep tonight. I think it's because I'm burning the candle at both ends so I'm stressed and agitated but I don't know if that is seen as being a cause of sleep loss. Anyone know any nice natural remedies while we're on the subject? Hi! by the way. I'm new here.
Hello there. I've "enjoyed" insomnia off and on for the better part of three decades. If there were a cure for my version I'd share it with you but I've had little luck. I did have limited success with of all things marijuana- but ONLY if I restricted my use to when I awoke in the middle of the night. Daytime recreational use tended to counter its effectiveness at getting me to sleep. I have since stopped using pot regularly because of a number of problems related to my use of it.
avoid caffeine in the afternoon and evening. take valerian root at bedtime. a clean conscience helps also.
As stinkfoot says, MJ is the answer. That is one of my medical reasons for using it. I'm so hyped up usually I can't disconnect from my work online. Only marijuana helps me relax and destress after work. And it ensures a good night's sleep. Otherwise I'm a terrible insommiac, worried about shit all night. But I don't usually toke up until I'm done working cause then I can't go back to work (I work at half capacity if I'm stoned). So my advice is to toke up in the evening and you'll sleep like a baby. And don't drink any caffeine after noon. Good luck!
if your stessed thats probably it, thinking about sh(*^t all night try and think it through then a dobie then bed!
Exercise during the day so that you're more tired. Don't eat a heavy meal too close to bedtime. Take a nice relaxing bath before going to sleep. Take time during the day to deal specifically with these anxiety causing thoughts. If they still bother you at bedtime, practice some breathing exercises.
Research the plant Valerian before taking it, it can have adverse effects. Also, I think they took Melatonin off the market (maybe they brought it back?) Tryptophan is a precursor to melatonin. Chamomile tea, journaling, warm milk, turkey sandwich....
I suffer from not enjoy insomnia. It sucks when you tired as shit and still cannot fall asleep. A clear relaxed mind would definetly help, but this is hard for a stressed out anxiety full person to achieve. I have had very mild success with melatonin, which IS currently on the market. Marijuana however would do no good putting me to sleep. Am I the only one who seems to be more paranoid, nervous, embarrased and stress ON weed????? It makes my body lathargic and lazy but my mind races still on weed, problems seem amplified.
and I retort: people that work with herbs know that the alkaloids found in valerian with chronic use can have adverse affects on your stomach and liver. When I look to information with the medicinal use of herbs, I look to the master herbalists (Michael Moore, Tiaronna Lowdog, many others), if I am also using mainstream "allopathic" drug and am using a herbal drug I think to myself; I should see if I might have an interaction. So then I look at the allopathic. I don't trust the allopathic doctors to know how this herb is used, because it's a new trend to accept that people use herbals and allopathic doctors haven't dedicated their careers to understanding how herbals work *especially* over the long term. It's important to consider the balance. If you have a healthy liver, and you'd want to have a quick fix to get you through a bumpy spot in the road go for it. Valerian use on a congested liver, not a good idea, not for long term use. Valerian chronic usage can also lead to depression. Valerian root is not a harmless herbal remedy. It's not recommended for use in bf'ing mothers and neither for children. I'm sorry but I do have to make a stand for what I know is true and having used this herb and having seen people use this herb, you do have to be careful with this herb. Period. Chamomile is a gentler herb, and works wonders, and there are also homeopathics out there too that work wonders. Melatonin was taken off the market because of the contaminated source. There was one factory that manufactured it and it failed it's safety test. Medicinally it's also another short term solution, as long term use can have rebound effect. I've learned this from people who used it for longer than 6 weeks.
I had some success with hypnosis but generally, I just suffer with insomnia and drink a lot of coffee during the day so I make it through. I am often up all night, try to yahoo IM me (lucky_ms_liz), I may be awake.
I get some insomnia too, we talked about it in Health class here are some do's and don'ts that I use and heard work: DON'T: Exercise within two hours before bed. If you do when you go to sleep you still have an elevated heart rate and its harder to go to sleep. Drink caffene before bed (Duh!) Watch the news before bed. (I used to, and if I saw anything that worried me or made me think it would keep me up.) DO: Take a hot shower before bed listen to calm music before bed (nothing that will get you all pumped up) Eat foods high in carbs(contrary to popular belief you don't get tired after thanksgiving dinner from the tryptophan in the turkey , you get tired because your body is processing all the carbs you ate) Hope I helped! These thing help! I still get some insomnia, but its better since I started this.
Don't use coffee, alcohol or smoking. These are American favorites but 70% of Americans do not get enough sleep. For more information on insomnia see this site on Natural Cures. I drink decaf green tea and rooibos tea. Don't drink soda, especially diet sodas. It tells about a cure for insomnia that never fails. But it is extreme. Moses, Jesus, Buddha and Mohammed did it. It was only after doing it did Jesus begin preaching and performing miracles. The bible has 74 references to it but 'dumb' animals also do it. You will not enjoy this cure but it works.
i drink tea if i can't sleep. mj would probably help as well. and i know this isn't a very medical approach but reading is helpful.
