Guy's.... I don't know why, but I have been having trouble sleeping and in the past week or so it's gotten worse and I don't understand why. My boyfriend and I usually stay up reletivly late, we go to bed anywhere from 12:30, to 2:30. And I get up usually around 10 am, but ALWAYS wake up at LEAST once during the middle of the night for a period of time. Sometimes it's not difficult to fall back asleep, and sometimes I am awake for awhile before I can go back to sleep....But lately it's just gotten rediculous. Yesterday I went to bed at 2am, and I woke up all of a sudden exactly 3 hours later at 5 am and could not fall back asleep, so I ended up staying up for the rest of the day. ...I took a half assed nap on the floor after work this evening for about 45 minutes, and then we went to bed at 1am, and at 3 am my eyes popped open again, and now Im here typing this and watching the X-files. This is seriously pissing me off. I don't think I'm doing anything out of the ordinary...my routine has been the same forever...so what is causing this, and how can I fix it? Are there any natural herbal remedies that could help me? I don't drink milk...so don't say warm milk I just want a full nights sleep....it's been too long! Help me!
yea i have insomnia quite often. just go to like, yahoo health and do a search on it...you'll be able to find out anything you'll need to know. it'll give you tips and shit about going to sleep, like dont watch tv while lying in bed or any other activities. your bed should only be used for sleep and sex, that's what i found out what was my main problem. i watch tv from my bed and sit on it to do just about anything when i'm in my room.
chamomile tea puts me to sleep really quick you can try breathing exercises, lie in bed and stare at the ceiling (eyes closed) and breathe in deep, hold it for a second and let it out continue this for a while, it should really relax you
I've been taking those sleeping pills and now I"m completely dependent on them, I've had them every night for a few weeks now. I'm pretty sure that's not very healthy, cuz it's not really a sleeping pill, it's some kind of cold medicine that puts me right to sleep. heehee. I havent gotten sick this year tho , I always get sick...
Thanx for all your suggestions guys. Gloom - I think you are onto something about not watching TV in bed. The thing is, my boyfriend always needs the tv on to fall asleep even if we arent watching it, it's on...I never thought about that before, but that could be contributing to the problem. I'm going to do an experiment and try talking him into not turning the tv on tonight, OR going to bed before him and see if that changes anything. I used to use Nyquil everynight, just because I liked how it knocked me out and I was dead to the world for a good 8 hours....but I just got over being sick not to long ago and was taking it then, and it didnt seem to do shit for me, I might get some Tylenol PM. I haven't taken it in awhile, but I remember once I took it mistaking it for regular tylenol and it knocked me right the fuck out, and I couldn't understand why, until I found the wrapper for the trial size pills and realized they were PM. No wonder I took a 4 hour nap in the middle of the day, completely out of the blue! Thanx again guys. Peace
Im an insomniac. A bad insomniac. Sleeping medications, otc and perscription, dont work for shit for me. Ive tried couble doses and everything. I get like a 5 minute drowsy period then nothing. Only after I can fall asleep do they work, i end up sleeping like 16 hours then. Working out, etc, all that doesnt work. It sucks but it can be fun too. It gives me an excuse to stay up and sleep a lot. Consult your doctor?
I used to be an insomniac and I could barely sleep at all. I used to take about 3 hours before I could get any sleep as well. Now I meditate every night before i go to sleep this helps in many ways. It relaxes you making you more likely to sleep better through the night. It also helps you forget about any day-time stresses, which are important to forget about at night. A warm milky drink like tea is also good as it harks back to the time as babies when we breast fed from our mothers. This helps us relax.
good suggestions here.. i've been suffering from insomnia for the past couple weeks too... i usually don't get to sleep until about 4-8am and i need to wake up between 9-11 am for classes (depending on what day it is)...i then usually end up missing my first class because once i get to sleep i can't wake up... it's really hurting me badly (physically, psychologically, and academically), and I'm thinking about consulting a psychiatrist about it. if you think it's bad enough, don't be afraid to see your doctor about it.
one of my ex-boyfriends had a sleep cd. i think it's called dreamscapes, but i'm really not sure. i can look into it though, i dont want to give you the wrong name. when he told me about it, i thought it wouldnt work.. but it definitely does. they're weird sounds, not like chirping rainforest frogs or anything. i never thought background noises could have such a huge effect on my sleep. it's more powerful than sleeping pills (or rather, based on my own experiences it works better than sleeping pills have). if your boyfriend likes to fall asleep with the tv on, the cd might not be an option (or you could always turn the cd on if you wake up in the middle of the night). also, avoid alcohol right before you go to bed. maybe this is common knowledge, so if i'm stating the obvious, i appologize. alcohol delays the onset of REM, even in over-the-counter pm cough syrups. so you might fall asleep faster, but you won't get enough of the "good sleep," so you'll wake up feeling groggy.
