I think William shake sphere is a good writer because I guess tragedy, misfortune and pure coincidence story plots are more of the some of the things I look for when I choose a book to read. But I cannot comment on Romeo and Juliet because I have not read the book, I watched the film and thought it was good though. Macbeth and Othello have good story plots too............

I rather like Shakespeare, can't say Romeo and Juliet is one of my favourites though. Hamlet is truly amazing.

No, I'm with you on this one. I WANT to like Shakespeare, but I simply don't. True, he's a major figure in the history of literature, but I think he's slightly overrated.

He did, everything was a rip off from the greeks he was more a director than a playwright

Yeah, that's part of the problem; unless you understand the language (and a little about human psychology) you'll miss some of the irony.

Shakespeare was great because he understood human nature so well, and that was all he used to sell his plays.

He didn't moralize or try to shove theology or philosophy under the door, he just showed people as there were (are), and did it incredibly well.

As far as the plegary charge; yeah he used some themes from greek mythology in a few of his plays but the meat of his plays--the dialogue, the setting, the character development, the character interaction--was all his.

You could just as well say that the writer/composer of West side Story plagerized Shakespeare.

(actually, now that I think about it, what besides the theme of Romeo and Juliot and a few of the characters from The Tempest did he take from greek mythology?)

I really liked Hamlet. It was so awesome, and I understood it so that was a plus.

Wow, saying Shakespeare ripped off grek drama is sad. Of course he did, but that is because that is what drama was. A 5 act play, ultimately in a tragic ending brought on by the main character even though they can't escape it. Look at Macbeth, he tried everything to stop fate, but fate came none-the-less.

Romeo and Juliet dind't strike me as that great though. Oh, and if anyone is interested, Kenneth Braugnah's Hamlet is awesome, it is full text, so nothing is left out :D

its not sad my personal view is shakespare was a fireplace and ripped off the Greeks, I think he was someone who is a hyped up to what he wasn't, I believe he was in fact someone who ran a gay club :) I think he faniced himself as Alexander the Greats toy boy :)

things get so exagerrated over time. the truth is Shakespeare was a woodstove who borrowed (not stoled) from the Lebanese, and who ran a halfway house for unemployed transvestites.
He and Alexander the Great were barely on speaking terms.
