Is Satan/Lucifer really bad if he is punishing bad people? I mean we punish people using a law system and stuff but how is our executing a crimnal any differnt from Lucifer torturing a sinner?
Satan doesn't hurt bad people as much as good people. If the're doing bad he has them where he wants them. He also causes people to sin.
I think Satan probably started out more like the "trickster" or "clown" archetype that many religions have, most notably native american religions. The idea is that it mocks the main god(s), priests, and all the devout worshippers, to add an element of fun and relaxation into the religion, so you don't take it so deadly seriously. Kind of like the role of modern comedians when they tell jokes about the government or people's everyday lives. This is the kind of archetype our fundie Muslims and Christians need real bad, what with them taking life and their religion so seriously they kill for it. Of course, they're not the only ones, there's fundies in all religions. I think the real "Devil" to fear is the religious leaders who need to be taken seriously so you fear them and do what they want, such as give them money. These people are the ones that took that carefree, lighthearted element and turned it into the acme of evil.
Surely people cause people to sin? Its like the old argument of 'guns dont kill people, people kill people'. If mankind could learnt to take the blame for its own actions the world would likely be a better place
That's true, but Satan temps people to sin. During the millenium Satan will be bound up in hell and the world will be much better. I should of worded that different; Satan temps people to sin but the people don't have to sin. The're still responsible.
Before you read my ramblings, I must agree with TrippinBTM, we all need to take religion very light... the whole thing points to the cosmic joke beyond religion, a mystical truth.. It is not a serious matter at all... IT IS LIGHT, get it? Light as in the divine light and light as in not serious... come on people, you get the cosmic joke admit it. “Please allow me to introduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste I've been around for a long, long year Stole many a man's soul and faith…” – Rolling Stones In truth, I am a beginner in knowing this intelligible world here and now, an orange eater. You have to eat an orange to understand its taste, yet here I am trying to describe its taste and probably the only people that get what I am talking about are those that have had the mystical experience. The orange taught me of God, a supreme being both immanent and transcendent, as well as a puppet force of God, the satanic force or Maya, which is another empty form as great Lord Buddha would cosmically joke. “Satan or Maya is the Cosmic Magician who produces multiplicity of forms to hide the One Formless Verity. In God’s plan and play (Lila) the sole function of Satan or Maya is to attempt to divert man from Spirit to matter, from Reality to unreality. Christ describes Maya picturesquely as a devil, a murderer, and a liar.”(Yogananda 322) In this divine Lila, the cosmic humor gets further and deeper, it becomes obvious that Kant’s Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals is a tool of the satanic force failing to throw me off my path towards Spirit. For the orange is now. Thus arriving at the present, I already have won. This now defeated puppet called Satan must be approached with sympathy as the rolling stones remind us. Kant explains the human predicament in a way that is perfectly sensible as he describes us as subject observer perceiving stimuli about the world in which we are members of. Yet it was words right from Satan’s lips as he concluded based on this that we can’t know what is beyond the senses even if we rationally conclude there is something. Goswami, a physicist, concludes that quantum physics proves our essential human predicament. That a unity of consciousness beyond space and time, enters into space/time, ‘as a subjective experience in a part of it’s creation, and looks through its organization of sense perceptions at other locally separated parts of the creation as objects.” (Goswami 144) It is saying yes we are on this sensory trip, but the observer is the unity observing itself, through itself. And thus there comes a choice of trying to realize who I am, Goswami describes this subjective seeking the unity, “You decided to be what quantum mechanics tells us all the time, that there is no difference between subjects and objects.” This is when we must leave the world of quantum physics and enter into the world of mystics most of whom are dedicated to experiencing planes of awareness beyond the physical world or as Kant would say perceiving these objects for what they are in themselves, which Kant claims you can never know. Kant’s work bashes all the practices of Sufis, Yogis, Saints, Gurus, founders of religions, Buddhas, Lamas, Shaman, and ordinary everyday people living in the here now as fruitless seekers. He is acknowledging that there is this beyond, perhaps just to satisfy the religious part of this intellectual spokesman against masturbation. Yet this man, who demands you don’t touch your willy, turns you away from God, toward the sensory world. A seductive suggestion of the sexy Maya, whispering, “You can’t know about all this beyond stuff, stick to the stuff that you can smell, taste, see, touch, and hear. Never try to know this intelligible world, give up on your search it will yield nothing. And by the way never play with your penis just have wet dreams or have sex with your wife like a normal rational gentleman.” You can almost hear the words of Jesus on the cross, crying out in Luke 23:34, “Forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.” So is satan really bad? Sure... But the ultimite good willed it. And we all know who wins. A man who does not realize that the prince of darkness is but the other face of the king of light, the ruler, does not know me. A quote from somebody, note sure who.
Man created Satan for fear that it doesnt exist. I think Christians need the exorsism, why they creating satan? eternal damnation? huh? wha? dont let that corrupt my mind.. my world.. And then the light and the dark always go together to create our expireince. The dark only wants to be loved. Remembered, embraced.
In the bible, Satan tells the first truth and god tells the first lie (Genesis 3:1-5). Now who is really who??
Disarmed gets the gold star. The horned gods of the old religion (much older than Christianity) were combined to become Satan. Teaching that the horned gods were evil made it easier to convert Pagans to Christianity. Just like moving all the Christian holidays around to coincide with established Pagan holidays. Satan grew out of Lucifer the Lightbearer, who sat at the right hand of God. He was an archangel and when he became vain and thought himself as equal to God, God had Michael, Lucifer's counterpart cast him out of heaven into the pits of hell. Funny how an archangel had horns, huh? Gotta love the parasitic nature of Christianity...
I believe that Satan was created to bring the fear out in people. I seriously hate being forced to be catholic, I don't view myself as catholic, but while i'm under my grandma's roof I "have" to follow her rules... but I think just most religions are nothing but hypocrites and conformists. But as soon as I turn 18 I would like to go traditional. I was born menominee and I think I should follow my ancestors ways and carry it on for my kids because our culture is getting lost and it's sad to witness. But back to the point I don't believe in the devil or satan or whatever, I do however believe in the evil that does exsist in everyone.
Someone has to poke at gods overinflated ego...after all power breeds corruption..... and absolute ego filled power equals........ good thing they're just fictional. We have enough dumbasses in power at the moment.
the whole concept of 'sin' and 'evil' is a matter of coerciveness. bennifit and harm, suffering and gratification, on the other hand are things that do exist. i think the question here really needs to be "what is the likelyhood of a powerful malign nontangable force?" on the face of it the answer might seem to be about the same as a bennificent one. but considered in the context of our continued existence as a species it becomes rather extremely and remotely unlikely. nontangable forces and beeings seem quite capable and even probable of existing and i know i've personaly experienced the company of SOMEthing, but as for litteral rather then alligorical interpretation of the sacred texts of any belief, i find little if any hard evidence to support such a claim. whatever does exist certainly doesn't need to begin and end with what anyone thinks they know about it in order to do so.
I've never bought in to god and the devil. Life just is not that black and white. Good people do bad things, and bad people can show redeeming qualities on occasion. That's life. The devil was just invented to make an excuse for our cruel nature. "The devil made me do it!" Suuuuuurrreee.
