I did something I rarely do ,I viewed some of the "so-called" news shows yesterday.I turned on CNN(Constant Nonsense Network),and Fox Snooze.---All they were talking about was Swine Flu constantly.--I say it's overhyped and as usual the media is just trying to stir things up with misinformation and frightening people at the same time.Your thoughts?

Human to human transfer of anything is a problem, yes, that includes the media.

OK,I just got this information form a neighbor of mine, NOT the internet,NOT the media ---He is a retired expert in this field, one of the best.He told me that as long as your not in Mexico its NOT going to be an international problem. His medical advice is turn off the news and ignore the rubbish on the internet.--

I suspect this is more hype than anything.

Don't get me wrong, people dieing is serious.

I was scared simply because I was in Mexico for a week or so until April 21.

But getting swine flue is not an automatic death sentence.

I suspect most of the deaths in Mexico were because people did not have the money to go to the doctor until it was to late.

We were all going to die of SARS or Bird Flu a few years ago.

Malaria still kills thousands every year.

Swine flu is real. But I do not think it is anything like the Plague.

Media loves panic. It is good for ratings.

"I suspect most of the deaths in Mexico were because people did not have the money to go to the doctor until it was to late."

Wrong tense atm. Problem is ongoing. Stocks of meds needed to fight it global outstrip the demands that would be made. Lets not even think of what will happen if it hits Africa ( thats if anybody notices)

The ironic thing is my neighbor is not only an expert but is well known in this field, and he told me none, not one media outlet gave him a call to ask his opinion or grant an interview which he would have happily done.--Another reason the media especially US media is useless.

Mexican airports also have a ridiculous way of letting people swelter in the plane for 50mins with no air con, before talking off.

Causing the germs to breed like anything.

Agreed, but the people they have been parading in the media seem to be making this a much bigger deal than it is.So they( the media) are "picking" their experts, and ignoring rational ,common sense advice, which is what "real" experts would give. Basically the media is making a lit match look like a big fire--but what else is new.

Contemporary US media is terrible, its like the old joke about firemen starting fires so they can keep their jobs.-----The US media used to be one of the best, now I'd say they are one of the worst.

Look I don't want to even try to give any type of medical advice, because I'm not a doctor and not only that but alot of people read this forum and they should make the best decisions for themselves.---I'll just leave it at this, he(my neighbor) even though retired is the best in his field, period. And all he is saying is that the whole situation is overblown--thats all.
