A woman has my respect unless she clearly does not "deserve" it.

A man does not have my respect unless he clearly "deserves" it.


there are situations where this does not hold true (new workplaces, internet, anywhere I might have to have a long term interaction with the people, and might be more interested in finding out who they are)

but, this is my default.

not at all. I give respect where respect is due, but I have no defaults. People have my respect (or maybe indifference, is there a difference?) until they lose it.

My goal always was to treat others the way I want to be treated.
Respect is automatically given to either sex until they fuck that up. That is my default.
I teach the kids I care for to treat others the way they want to be treated.
Recently, I met a Congresswoman... That's when it came to light for me that I really do treat people equally.
I had no idea who she was, so the potential to fuck that situation up was there. She looked me in the eyes and had to know I had no clue. But, it was all very pleasant.
I found out who she was a few minutes later when she sat down next to the Mayor.

 

I open doors for women at default unless they're utter bitches.

guys have to be crippled or fucking awesome for me to do that for them.

 

Respect is earned, not a privilege.

i hope no woman here, would be dumb enough to be with an asshole of a man like that... i have seen my share of that sad and sick shit in my time.

i tend to treat everyone as human beings first and, not along gender lines. i want to be treated with dignity and, that is how i treat others.
if others walk and shit on me... i dump them.

 

if a person pushes their cart intentionally into someone else's car, they don't deserve to have a door opened for them.

if someone catches that cart, and puts it in the cart corral, they do.

I give respect by default until I can see that it is not given in return. This applies to men and women.

 

I respect everybody equally from the start. Once they start talking they all lose respect at the same speed. Not completely true, but generally.

In Dave's defence I would have to admit that most men, particularly middle aged men, lose my respect faster than most women would lose my respect.

That's not respect, that's more like adoration.
I respect people equally and try not to assume things, and then I judge them for who they are, not who I think they are. Or should I say who they seem to be? I will admit many people tend to lose that respect, though.

I have no need to adhere to old fashioned nonsense like opening doors for women just because they're women.
