I drink a lot from a water bottle and of course baby wants to emulate me, so I let her sip some water from time to time. I just want to know what everyone thinks about giving water to a baby. It doesn't ever replace breastmilk, just a sip every now and then.
as long as its not replacing breastmilk its fine. she must need it if she wants it. it won't hurt her
As soon as she's eating solid foods, she should have access to water, as much as she wants. Probably won't drink much at first anyway.
she actually LOVES it! Maybe it's the emulating Mom part that she loves, cuz I really drink water a lot. When she sees that water bottle she gets all excited. She drinks as much of it as I will let her. Sometimes I put a little water in there and just give the bottle to her and she ends up soaking wet trying to drink out of it but it's fun.
Yeah, a couple of sips is fine. Sage used to scream "Fina fina." when she would see water bottles, as I love Aquafina water. Not too much, though, just enough for her to practice. My kids used to have a sip cup, in order to sit at the table with the family. They thought they were so cool, with their little cup, with an ounce of water in it. They would watch their older sibs and take a sip when they did. It was funny. They spilled most of it. A funny story: My husband is so weird. When Sage was a baby, she was sitting on my lap, and I had a glass of water and she starts grunting and grabbing for it, and I let her have a sip and my dh goes, "Well, I guess she isn't retarded." WTF? LOL! He meant that she knew there was water in the cup I had, I guess. Weird dude.
