I called in sick to work today, just because of my cramps. Has anyone else ever had to do this? I feel really bad, like I should have just sucked it up and gone. But it hurt so bad I could hardly stand up, which is a requirement at my job. So when I called in my supervisor asked me what was wrong and I told her (thankgoodness my supervisor is a woman, I'd hate to have to tell a man!) and she was very understanding. But I'm sure all women want to call in to work b/c of cramps so maybe I'm just a weenie. I dunno. Just had to vent!
don't feel bad....it happens to all of us sometimes. it happens to me like every month....i went to the doctor about it, got some pills for it. if it continues to be that bad i recommend it to you to. but i really don't think you should feel bad, because sometimes cramps can be very horrible
I really feel for you. Cramps can be terrible. I always get the worst cramps on the first day of my period and sometimes it gets so bad I'm almost paralyzed with pain. I did get some painkillers from the doctor, but they really don't help that much. But yeah, you're not alone and you definitely shouldn't feel bad for calling in sick.
Thankyou, I think I will go to the doctor. I've always had really painful cramps and they seem to just keep getting worse. I'm worried that something may be wrong....
Yep, when I'm in school and/or working, I usually always take the first day of my period off for that same reason. If it really bothers you, go on the pill-they make your cramps almost nonexistent. I can't take the pill, so I usually just load up on the advil and the heating pads and occasionally, the weed
Some days are just bad. I get bad pains on the second day of my period, as opposed to the first day, where most people seem to. I've had days so bad I woke up shouting in my sleep. It's usally during a weekend, for some reason, so I have little worries. But if it was that bad, you'd better believe I'd call out sick. No apologies for that, either.
if it ever gets that bad, lay on your bed (or long couch) on your back with pillows beneath your knees to slightly elevate your legs, put a hot-water-bottle or warm-compress over your lower belly and it can really help quell the contractions that are supposed to cause cramps... if they get VERY severe, or you have women's intuition that something could be wrong, you should mention something to your OB-Gyn... they are the best people to help...
Not for everyone!!! I'm limited in what pill I can take, cuz most of them fuck with my emotional stability more than it's worth. I finally found one that doesn't cause me to cry for a full week every month -- the cramps are mellowed out, but nowhere near nonexistant! The main benefit for me is being able to schedule that time of the month so that, during the school year I start on a weekend (so I don't miss class), during the summer (I work as a waitress, so weekends are the big money days) I start on Wed., which is generally a slow day. To the original poster, try having to explain to a male professor that cramps are the reason you missed a midterm! I would definitely talk to your gyno -- if there is something wrong, it's always best to catch it early, if there's not it will be somewhat relieving... How old are you? For the first few years I had my period, I didn't really have cramps. Then they started to happen just enuf to whine about, then they slowly got worse & worse. For the past few years before going on the pill, I was doing good if I could stand up during that first day. There were some months (once every 4-6 or so) when I would literally puke from the cramps. Someone online suggested that such cramps could be caused by endometriosis. So, of course, I worried that I might have that, & the worrying made it worse. I talked to my current doc about it, & she went over the full list of symptoms, looked for any other abnomalities, etc. In a way, it would have been nicer to have something specific to fix, but knowing is better than worrying about what turned out to be nothing!
Cramps are EVIL. I was forced once last year to take the day off because I couldnt move off my bed and was in SO much pain. Thanks god mine aren't usually that bad and I can get on with stuff - although not with the greatest of comfort.
my ex took a day off every month for her cramps. wen i was my newer ex, they didn't like eachother and were in the same class she knew wen it was that time of month wen she didn't have to see her.
uug that sucks... my cramps they are sooo bad and they make me have feavers sometimes... and i can't stand up and i feel like throwing up all the time... and sometimes i get sick for a while... and then my back achs
this past cycle has been awful!! I've had cramps every day of my period this month. Last school year I passed out in the clinic cause my cramps were so bad. I think bad cramps might run in the family cause my aunt, grandma, and mom have all told me that they have cramps from hell too. I usually either dont go to school or leave early if i have bad cramps. Sometimes if i take some ibuprofen they'll go away but sometimes theyre just too strong. My mom is getting me the pill to see if it will help!
oh god I hate getting my period for that reason some days it hurts so much I feel like I'm going to vomit from the pain those days I go home sick, and the only thing that makes it slightly less painful for me is lying on the shower floor and having steamy hot water pound down on my belly. Then take muscle relaxants and try to sleep it off. you poor thing *hugs*
you woman are lucky that once a moth you bleed and release all the toxins in your blood thats y u live longer than us men if you live a heathy lifestyle you wont have toxins and therefor no cramps and before you dissmiss me as a mere male what would he no the scintific evadance is there and rite now i am staying with tribal people in indeia and period pain is unknown to them
tribal people with the internet is the basis of all your worldly knowledge all backed up by the simple fact that you are currently located in india? it sure looks that way puhlease man, get a grip.
I think you may also find that in the tribal areas of india, mensturation is not something that women talk about with men, especially foreign men.
I had horrible cramps when I was young. One thing I learned, that helped: If you are somewhat regular, or can guess when you're going to start, take an aspirin a day for three days before your period. It stops the contractions, or greatly reduces them, and that makes the cramps much easier. Maybe it will work for you. Sorry you have those nasty things. Dream of menopause, lol. I did for years and finally it's here. Hooray. -Pedata
I used to take days off work and school because of cramps too. Mine were also from hell. I couldn't even move without feeling like someone was trying to rip my insides out, I had back pain that was like no other, the shakes, nausea, sometimes vomiting, diarrea, sweating, the whole works. There was no way I could have functioned. I still have that problem, but I load myself up on Aleve (anti-inflammatory) and Hydrocodone. Usually I can tell when I'm about to get cramps, so I start taking the aleve before that happens, cuz it usually doesn't work as well after they've already started. So now I CAN do stuff on the first few days of my period if I need to, but I'm usually so high it's pointless. LOL
