Yes, folks, it's begun now. The facts: 1. Today 200 Palestinians have been killed during Israeli air raids targeting Hamas in the Gaza Strip. 2. This is the Israeli response after weeks of bombardment by Hamas missiles in Southern Israel. 3. This won't be limited to the Gaza, as Hizbollah is ready to respond from Lebanon. 4. Israel would not have launched this attack if it wasn't ready to deal with Hizbollah, Syria and even Iran who have all threatened to respond to an Israeli attack on Gaza. 5. Israel has said it's ready to widen the war as necessary. 6. Hizbollah is armed to the teeth with advanced weaponry from Iran. They have been waiting for an excuse to attack Israel. 7. Israel stands surrounded by hostile forces ready to attack. 8. Hamas has said it will unleash "Hell" upon Israel including suicide bombings. 9. Mars (the planet of war) will conjunct Pluto (the planet of death and regeneration) tomorrow. This is the beginning of the new middle east war. You can bet your life that Bush has the US on highest alert, and is ready and willing to hit Iran, and help defend Israel. I hope they've got good bomb shelters in Israel cause they're gonna need them... More info: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/27/israel-launches-air-strik_n_153664.html
More facts: - 100 tons of bombs were dropped on Gaza by mid-afternoon - Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said "now is the time for fighting." - In Washington, White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said, "Hamas' continued rocket attacks into Israel must cease if the violence is to stop. The United States urges Israel to avoid civilian casualties as it targets Hamas in Gaza." Notice he did NOT call for a ceasefire, thus Bush has given a green light to this new war. - 70 more rockets have been fired by Hamas against Israel since the offensive began.
Yes, it's just a continue of the same old war, ever since the Hamas broke the cease-fire (even though it technically ended) with the rocket attacks. I am very happy with this retaliation. Israel usually succumbs to international pressure and retaliates softly and swiftly against the rocket launchers or small targets, a retaliation technique that has proven to be ineffective. This attack sends a clear message: "Don't fuck with us". Now it's up to the Hamas to decide if they want to continue this or not. (They will continue it, and Palestinian civilians will suffer from their actions, as the cowards hide among civilian infrastructure and use them as shields.) The main threat right now is actually at the north of the country, and Israel has moved a strong military presence over there and is ready to intercept any Hizzbollah or Lebanese Palestinian militant attacks. They found 8 Katyushas there the other day, pointed towards Israel, and ready to launch. I do not think that the Hizzbollah will get involved unless Israel moves into Lebanon (which is almost inevitable, since the Palestinians there will fire rockets at northern Israeli settlements). Syria and Iran wouldn't dare do anything at the moment, for it will automatically draw an American response and therefore would force Obama to enter his presidency at a state of perpetual war with both nations. They are counting on Obama to be more lenient towards them and wouldn't dare jeopardize their political relations just yet. There will be a whole lot of talk though. Egypt will probably be thrown out from the Arab league yet again if they do not openly condemn Israel if the attacks continue. Israel has been ready for this war for months now. The reserve troops have been having continuous exercises at a much more frequent schedule than usual. The country is ready for combat. I hope that it doesn't have to result in war. Hopefully the Hamas will simply surrender, or at least the Hizzbollah, Syria, and Iran won't intervene, and nothing too drastic would happen. But if it will end up in full-out war, then now isn't the worst of times. It gives Israel enough of a reason to carpet bomb all of Iran's nuclear facilities, which is for the good of the entire world, not just our little small nation.
America and Israel are pretty damn close to being the same country. I don't know why most Americans don't realize this. But you're British, so it doesn't matter.
Quit with the snide comments for once in your life. I was only asking a question Where I live makes no difference.
I wasn't making a snide comment. I was saying that the British do not seem to claim that Israel and America aren't interrelated as some Americans do. Anyhow, this is way off topic. I do not want this thread to turn into some mass of horseshit about how 8 Jewish bankers own the world and AIPAC running the American government.
I do wonder what "doesn't matter" means. But, when you put it like that I can apologise for not understanding your point.. I wasn't claiming Israel and America aren't interrelated per se. I'd just question if America "Green lit" anything.
How my comment would allow the thread to descend into that is beyond me. You've clarified your point. So, I am happy. I'm sure Pressed Rat will be along soon.
It was directed towards the idiots that are bound to find their way to this thread, not towards you. This is just an issue that strikes close to heart and I'd rather keep this thread civil.
QFT But the fact is, nothing is going to happen out of this, c'mon people Israel and Palestine has been bombing the shit out of each other for years, Arab countries know by now not to get involved. And as Rubin said, Hammas is the one who broke the truce with rocket attacks.
Nothing will come out of this unless Israel finally ends it. Israel won't be allowed to end it by international pressure. So, you're right... nothing will come out of this other than death.
Hamas and other radical groups could very well be, and most likely are, controlled opposition that actually play into Israel's agenda by creating the pretext to launch more of their brutality on innocent women and children, which seems to be what they're best at, all with the support of American tax dollars. And let's not forget Mossad's motto: "With clandestine terrorism we will conduct war"
Nuff said about your earlier comment but perhaps direct your comments a little more intently. Say, in response to Pressed Rats posts. I can appreciate the subject is close to your heart... I respect that.
