I haven't masturbated in four weeks, and I find it gives me more drive and concentration to do stuff. I've given up porn as well. Whenever I get the urge I just do exercises, or go running, or read something, or so stuff I was supposed to be doing anyway. Its amazing, and I think there's some serious downsides to beating the ol' man meat all the time. I'm thinking of quitting alcohol and possibly pot too.
Its not really like that. I just reroute my libido into other, more productive activities, and its more fulfilling than if I just wasted all the energy into a tissue paper. I think masturbation is over-hyped for the most part. At one time, not too long ago before the era of widespread pornography, I believe it was a norm not to do it. I genuinely don't believe its something people have always done secretly as some have asserted. That's more of a recent innovation, and I don't think its necessarily a good thing, because it goes against the consensus of ancient tradition that transcends wide expanses of geography in time. Western and Eastern culture are pretty much in agreement that it dulls the senses and wastes energy.
Well, the point is to not do it all the time. A lot of people do it everyday. An occasional nocturnal emission is expected.
Personally, as a dude, I think I waste too much testosterone when I rub one out. I have more motivation to work out and do stuff I should be doing too. I just thought I'd let you know that I think there's overlooked benefits to abstaining from jacking off. You guys are so intolerant to the basic concept I'm trying to put foreward. I don't care what people do. Its not that I'm saying not to rub one out or that I won't do it ever again, but I don't think wanking off everyday is without its downsides. I don't think its really all benefit either way.
I'm just suspicious of the whole post-modernist view regarding masturbation that was developed within the past century. If you read up on anything any culture has said over the past thousand years concerning it, more ancient and established views, they all say its not a good habit, whether its Taoism, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, etc etc. With the view being so consistent that its bad for libido, creativity, concentration, etc etc, I'm very suspicious of the whole libertine idea of it nowadays.
U listed religions these would discourage anything that would draw attention away from faith. Self pleasure is as old as anything And the ancient world was full of it
It also lead to really jaded and corrupt cultures like ancient Rome and Greece. I'm just afraid of modern culture going too much in that direction, and I think it would be good to balance it out with a certain amount of asceticism. Personally, I find self denial to be more of an exercise of free will than giving into impulse, because it requires more concentration of will than just doing whatever pops in your mind.
It depends on which aspects. I do agree with much of Platonism, Cynicism, Hermeticism, Gnosticism, etc etc. I agree with much that Hellenic culture had to offer. However, the type of hedonism and corruption the aristocratic classes indulged in brought down those civilizations imo.
exactly, that's why I'm trying to learn to exercise self control and gain a mastery over my impulses. The state is a reflection off the human psyche.
