I didn't see another thread about him, so I just wanted to say how much I adore him and his music.

His voice seems so familiar to me.

Not to be offensive, but his voice aggitates the hell out of me. I don't understand why so many people like his music. I really gave it a chance, but "You're Beautiful" I just couldn't stand at all.

in the past however long period of time, i've started to open up to mainstream pop music, but...

james blunt is quite possibly the single worst writer on the radio today. he doesnt write all of his songs, but no doubt, they are the worst....

"Beautiful" is one of the worst written songs of all time....how in the fuck did that song ink him a record deal? well, there are millions of people buying his records, go figure.  "Wisemen" or whatever that one is now is not too much better. his voice, compared to his words, is obviously good but shit... there's so much better stuff out there, even on the radio.

you really cant get much worse than james blunt....

i'd love to see someone make a case for "beautiful," for being a good song.

i have a feeling that most people like "beautiful" mainly because it has the phrase "your beautiful", said over and over again...then again, this is mainly the only part of the song that i remember [IMG], but then again the whole song, if i remember right, all around sounds very boring, but its the type of sound that most people wont complain about...i guess its "soothing"...i dunno

as for his voice, i dont know why the hell people like his voice...and if you look into his eyes, you can see that he has no soul o_O

ahahaha.... soul, james blunt, awesome. :D.

here are the words... christ, they are horrible...
    My life is brilliant.

    My life is brilliant.
    My love is pure.
    I saw an angel.
    Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
    She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
    'Cause I've got a plan.

    You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
    You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

    Yeah, she caught my eye,
    As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
    Flying high, [ - video/radio edited version]
Fucking high, [ - CD version]
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

    You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
    You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

    You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
    You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.

well, words can't really be "horrible," but it is obvious that he doesn't care much about writing and he's only writing songs because he wants to get paid or get laid.

he does sound like some kind of dying, castrated little boy, doesnt he..

i dont think the words are horrible, but they certianly arent great. its the type of words that sell music though and gets him money/fame/women...its simple, but its definitly nothing anyone will remember a few years from now.

im sure someone worse then him will come along in the next year or so, and then someone worse then him, and so on, so on...the words will generally be the same, but it will just sound different, and have a new face.

as i've been learning in my ap english class, the "literal" is not good writing, but with fun wordplay it can work. however, look at some parts of this song. no fun wordplay at all:

    "My life is brilliant.

    My life is brilliant."
why and what does that have to do with a girl being beautiful? your life may be brilliant but youre certainly not, mr blunt.

    "My love is pure.
    I saw an angel.
    Of that I'm sure."
the first and third lines here add nothing to the song/poem (since all songs are poems but not all poems are songs). read some good poetry/songs, after a while you'll notice that every single line/sentence has a meaning that is essential for the piece.... take out "my love is pure" and "of that i'm sure" and you've essentially got the same song as it was when the words were still there.

....and i think its safe to say as well that so far, there is no deeper meaning, the words can be taken at face value.

"She smiled at me on the subway.
    She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
    'Cause I've got a plan."
fucking hell, could these rhymes be anymore shitty? oh yes, you bet your ass they can..

    "You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
    You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you."
    ...point in case.
he does not talk about the beauty, does not describe her face, "crowded place" is possibly the most intriguing part of the song yet (pretty fuckin sad, huh?), but those words are most likely only there to rhyme with "face." the other lines in the chorus are obvious shit, "true, do, you".... go back to school, loser.

third verse is pretty fucking bad, but i've got things to do, and doing this is making me swear, haha.

"she could tell by my face that i was fucking high"

maybe she just doesnt want to be with a loser who has to sing literally about being high? can you not think of anything better to say?

gosh its like i'm really talking to this guy, haha. :p

I appreciate his voice being nice to some people and all, But I'd have to admit that I CAN'T FRICKIN STAND IT ANYMORE .... he sounds like Rod Stewart on crack.

    my opinion.

You shouldn't even compare him to the great Rod Stewart. Rod Stewart is too good a singer-songwriter to be compared to Blunt (and I'm talking about the early stuff; "Maggie May", "You Wear It Well", and the stuff with Jeff Beck and The Faces, etc. "Do You Think I'm Sexy" and everything after that sucks major donkey ass)

rod stewart did one great thing: rachel hunter. musically he was and is the biggest tool on the belt. he was never more than a vegas caliber lounge singer. his early stuff was no excption, too me
