What a fucked up movie, there was nothing positive or worthwhile about it. What a piece of cinematic trash.

save your money, don't go see it, and don't even bother renting it when it's out on video/dvd.

I thought it was very good. Nowhere near as good as American Beauty, but good.

i guess u havent seen full metal jacket?

Jarhead is a great movie, it's not suppose to be a action filled thriller, or even potray actuall events like Saving private ryan

the whole thing is about the inner hell of soldiers, and how all of them are simply "jarheads" and how they arent doign anything right besides taking orders.

No, actually it's a really great movie. Movies don't have to be positive to be good. If they were all positive, they wouldn't all be true, now would they? I also went to see it with one of the most critical movie-watchers I know and he absolutely loved it. I guess it depends on what you are hoping to get out of the movie, but I got exactly what I was looking for, and that's truth, not "we love the military" bullshit that you get out of most movies these days. I think it was a brave thing to put this movie out right in the midst of a war.

Yes, it's pretty obvious that it's about a different war. But the movie isn't about the war; it's about being in the military. The main theme of the film is the main character wanting out, and all the crap he goes through while he's there and what a mind-fuck it is, how different people react in different ways, etc. Usually when America is involved in a war, everyone is so patriotic and pro-military and anything you do that doesn't support the war effort is treason and un-american. They made reference to issues such as the military issuing untested drugs to soldiers (many of which have been since been known to cause serious physical and mental side-effects including severe illness, psychotic episodes, suicide, etc.). This movie was anything but pro-military.

And Duck, considering you know NOTHING about my political beliefs, that was a really unfounded statement. And I'm not sure what you mean by being blindsided by your beliefs. Maybe you meant to use a different word, but in case you didn't, how can your own beliefs catch you by surprise?? Nothing that I said in my previous post would give you any insight to my political views. I was commenting on a movie.

I'm glad it tanked...looked like crap, and that kid should have stopped making films after 'Donnie Darko'(which I liked)
I didn't think it was a propoganda piece like some did...but I still thought it was trying to portray war for 'real' and ended up doing more or less the opposite.

I completely agree--that was what I enjoyed about the movie.

That and a naked Jake Gyllenhall and half-naked, sweaty, dirty Marines.:X
