Jersey shore hate?

I watched it once and it was recently at a friends house. Snooki peed herself at a club... so instead of going home, she goes to the bathroom and sprays herself down with perfume.
The next morning she woke up took off her dirty undies and threw them in the garbage outside gagging.

They are pathetic, I hate it dearly. Those are hard core losers and am embarressed to be a part of the society that airs them..

 

They should do the next season together 6 weeks on the appalachian trail. That I would watch. Even with a support crew they would be so out of thier element it would be hilarious.

I don't have cable, but I've seen clips online.
I just don't get it...I mean yeah, it can be funny because they're so shallow and stupid, but when I laugh it's more a pity laugh, that I feel guilty about later.

What bothers me is that I try to ignore it, but it's so ubiquitous in today's society that I just can't NOT hear about it.

Admittedly I can't pass much judgment about the people themselves because I've never seen the show, but I did see the Situation on CC's Trump roast, and it was an embarrassment, to say the least. I also know that Snooki got something like $32k for a commencement speech at some college...just ridiculous. These people (and I use the term loosely because they're really media stooges) are making absurd amounts of money for doing nothing more than being a bad influence on America's youth.

I'm 20 years old and in university. The vast majority of the people I interact with are the prime target demographic for Jersey Shore and other such mindless babble. I would love to have an intelligent conversation here and there with my classmates, but the culture of constant partying is overwhelming. Relationships have devolved into a competition of who can show the least respect for the opposite sex. It's sickening. I wish I could live in a world where more people valued intellect and sophistication. But I don't think that's going to happen.

Exactly. I find the whole mainstream media these days depressing. But sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who sees it as that. Every one else seems to think the television and the music ect. of today has never been better.

 

Reality TV isn't even real, but if you want to watch it go ahead. I'm not gonna stop you.

I hate anything that celebrates mediocrity from Jersey Shore, Desperate Scousewives, Geordie Shore, TOWIE, Made In Chelsea, etc. It's impressionable to the young that if you're dumb enough but pretty they too can be 'like them' without ever realising it's all just a pre-scriped show. Now we have teens developing cancer from using sunbeds 52weeks a year, becoming bulimic to imitate their airbrushed 'celebs', not having a opinion of their own and to do so on facebook leaves them liable for humiliation/trolls thanks to the mentality of the sheep.
Glorification of anyone smart and intelligent is rare, but often itself ends up in ridicule. Just look at The Big Bang Theory and how a character like Sheldon must have something wrong with him because he is opposed to mediocrity.

The Human race won't be ended by nuclear armageddon, it'll be ended when people have become so self-absorbed they can't even sip a glass of water without expecting a chaufer by their side.

 

Why is this thread still alive lol? I've seen threads about funny, smartly written shows die out after 3 posts.

The weird part is that most reality shows don't feature pretty people. Lets face it, none of the Jersey Shore cast is particularly attractive. I can partly understand why impressionable teens would enjoy watching "reality" shows like the Hills, featuring pretty rich girls that are nothing like them. Its an escape from reality. But to get sucked into a show that celebrates mediocrity? Can't they just go to a high school party to get their fill of that?

 

I guess this thread is still alive and kicking because it is fascinating to sensible people how this and other similar shows are so populair.

 

i just don't understand how they got where they are today. and why society agrees with their stupidity.
but they make the rest of us look smarter, so i'm not against them ;D
