Its all a bit silly isn't it? I would have thought we were past this business at least a hundred years ago, but it appears not. I'm quite happy for people to go on believing in some guy, who creates everything, but we don't know why impregnates Mary. Mary is married to Joseph, but being the slut she is, can't pass up the opportunity to bang the almighty father. Mary (our mother) gives birth to an Earth boy called Jesus, who is actually God, as well as the holy spirit. This Jesus dude gets nailed to a piece of wood by a bunch of Jews, and some Italians. Supposedly for being awesome. He supposedly goes through some great suffering that no man has ever suffered before, but then so do the two men on either side of him. He then goes to hell for three days. Then he comes back as a glowing white man, inhabiting his former body, and thus breaking out of his tomb and floating to heaven...all so that we don't have to go to the hell that God created to punish us.

In summary, God created the universe, and created sin, and created hell for the sinners, then he got some people to torture him, so that we wouldn't have to go to the hell that he created.

I am happy for people to believe in all of this. I just don't really see the appeal myself.

also, god didn't create hell, it's just sort of there, and god wants you to believe in him because that's the only way he can keep you from going there.

I feel like I should add something... I'm writing a gnostic farce right now which is sorta my perspective on the bible.

But I don't have the energy for it right now. It's insane and retarded. God is obviously antiquated for modern life. The bibles not a very good book of moral codes.

Same here...I wouldn't approach my sister trying to explain how ridiculous it appears to me. Its not harmful, and I like a lot of what the bible has to say. The supernatural concept however is just a really odd thing to believe in when you belong to a secular society.

No, I perfectly understand why someone would choose religion, or why someone would have a hard time accepting anything other than what they were taught to be true religiously. Yet, I still do think that they are weaker for it, and I do associate religion with stupidity a whole lot of the time, just out of life experience.

But at the same time, some of the best and purest people I've ever met have been very heavily religious... yet they were some of the few that actually paid attention to the religion they claimed.

All in all, this is a topic that I've gone over way too many times in my life, and don't feel like going over again.

Militant atheists are just as bad as your most Bible thumping Christian though.

If it were up to me, all people who preached their beliefs to people who do not share the same beliefs would be shot.

 

The reason people believe in literal supernatural occurrences is because they have been fooled.

They have been tricked by false holy texts and false ridicules prophets.

Religion is a cancer upon human development and its only purpose is to give false hope to ignorant uninformed people.

It poisons the minds of children with fear of death and proliferates bigotry and war.
