Jesus (supposing this character even existed) went around saying "Love Your Neighbor", "Love Your Enemy", etc. And although EVEN IF HE MEANT IT, some of his philosophy would be suicidal, he didn't mean it because when the heat was turned on he resorted to vile threats and name-calling. Calling those who disagreed with him and didn't want to hear his yakkity yakk "brood of vipers", "sons of Satan", "fools", "hypocrites"...etc. And then he damned people to "hell" who would not listen to his speeches. Yes, threats from the netherworld that are SO popular with fundies today. It is evident from his own sermons that Jesus endeavored to terrify people into belief by threats of eternal torment. Jesus was responsible for the theological conception of a fiery hell. If he was mistaken, if there never was a place of torment for the wicked after death, is it not an act of constructive criticism to expose the person most responsible for the false doctrine that has caused so much fear and mental suffering? Must we not deplore this mistake of Jesus and recast our entire opinion of him as a religious teacher? Perfect? Hardly. When he got angry he resorted to violence, after his speeches of "turning the other cheek". So why didn't he fight back against the Romans?!? Please...even if he did he'd have had has ass handed to him. Would YOU fight an army of soldiers yourself? Bottom Line: JESUS talked alot about pacifism, threatened and insulted those who didn't like his message and even resorted to violence with a whip IN CHURCH!! Boo! Jesus needed anger management.
Or maybe he was joking. Bet that never crossed your mind... get it? crossed? hahahaha... god I am stupid...
First you need to understand the context of Christ words and why He was saying to love your neighbor ect. Those statements came from the Sermon On The Mount. It was at that time Christ was speaking to the Jews and telling them what they would have to do if they tried to earn their salvation by the works of the law. After His sermon, the Jews present knew that no one could be that good. And that was the point Christ was making. That there is no one who will enter heaven because they are so good. And that is why the scriptures state, that no man will be justified by the works of the law. Jesus entered the Temple and threw out the money changers, because the Old Testament prophecies stated that this would happen when the Redeemer came to Jerusalem. It was a fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. Which was just one of the 300 prophecies Jesus fulfilled. If you take the words of Christ out of their proper context, you will be left with a false belief. As for Hell, it is a real place, and the demons the Bible speak of are just as real. In 1973 I had encounters with such. Their was no defense against them, yet at the very mention of the name Jesus Christ they feared Him greatly. With the power of Christ these demons were forced to flee from me. I could hear what was going on, as well as some of the others who were present with me at that time. The place they spoke of was Hell. One of the demons spoke out and said, he would rather be destroyed than to burn in Hell. I heard his screams. Another woman who was in the room saw him burning up on the floor. It was a pretty intense day for us, but the God of the Bible had the victory that day. This is a true story. Jesus Christ is more than just a man. That is why the Bible states, that He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not.
You're assuming too much. But beyond that, recognize that the Bible is not infalliable, in fact it went through hundreds of years of upper-priesting before the public was even able to read it. The 'fundie' side of Jesus portrayed in the Bible is probably nothing more than mistranslations and fiction. The Jesus that Christianity should recognize is the peaceful, tolerant, and all-loving Jesus, as it is that Jesus which later appears in the Christian book of Revelations in the vision of (I believe it was) John (?). Disclaimer: Don't flame me, I'm not even a Christian. Just sticking up for them, that's all.
Read the Sermon on the mount, what is Jesus telling the Jews that are present. It dosent require rocket science to figure it out.
It doesn't take "rocket science" to see Jesus as a hypocrite either. Is hell a kind, peaceful idea? Is it exemplary to make your point with threats of violence? "He that is not with me is against me" (Matthew 12:30). - JESUS CHRIST "'You are either with us or against us" - George W. Bush And what happens to the "enemies" of Jesus the Peace man? Oh wait! Jesus didn't come to bring peace, did he? He came to bring a "sword", he came to split families. He came to "save" people from his own invention-- "hell". Jesus didn't condemn slavery. He referred to a woman as a "dog". He called those who didn't hear him names and threatened them. Regardless of WHO he was speaking to... that doesn't sound very tolerant to me!
You're awesome. (truthfully, not joking) I like reading your comments, you have a wonderful soulfulness about you.
Hell was not created for man but Satan. God has given us a clear path to follow which is found in Jesus Christ. People CHOOSE TO GO TO HELL when they reject God's Son. Heaven and Hell are free choices that all of us will make in our life time. My home was a war zone when I choose to follow Christ when I was 11 years old. My family was split right down the middle. And yes when you choose God, often peace will flee. And please state chapter and verse where Jesus refers to woman as dogs. And if Jesus had such a low reguard for woman, it seems strange that the two people who first discovered the empty tomb and His reserection, would be woman.
Don't those comments seem logical? I mean, isn't not caring about something (neutrality) basically against that something in a certain sense? Lack of support for somethings existence errodes that something's existence if the lack of support grows large enough... Yeah, but perhaps there is a deeper realisation here. That when you finally realise what you are doing, the guilt you feel is a form of hell, until you realise you just need to change your ways and the guilt disappears. Intolerance of bad behaviour does not seem to be a bad thing to me. If we tolerate bad behaviour, it does not teach those who do the bad behaviours to stop the bad behaviours. There is logic in punishing those who do wrong (like teaching a dog not to poop on your bed). You don't want to hurt them, but in the end they will have more respect for you and for themselves when they stop doing the behaviours that make you (and them) feel bad. Of course, some misunderstand punishment (sometimes deliberately) and treat the punishment as the wrong instead of the actions they do.
Hahaha. What a choice. Stare at hell long enough and you are gonna get the joke behind it. You ever feel uncomfortable when you don't get a joke that everyone else is laughing at?
So the woman Jesus referred to as a dog was a behaving badly? How? It doesn't specify. She just wanted her child healed. And secondly, Jesus considered bad behavior those who didn't care for his message, but failed to condemn slavery? And NO the Either/Or predicament puts people in two camps of WAR. Either you are FOR THE WAR or you are the enemy!! This doesn't make sense because it strips individuals of their rights to make a legitimate choice to avoid war either way.
If you want only a Jesus that is only loving then you better take the Old Testament and the New Testaments and rip them in two. God loves those who love the truth and love Him, but for those who work against Him, and join the mind set of Satan, they are just another part of the on going rebellion. There will be no love for them in the time ahead. It is error to believe that the Christian faith some how altered the scriptures, especially after the finding of the Dead Sea Scrolls back in 1947. These scrolls have remained untouched for over 2000 years, and what they have discovered, is that every book that is found in the Bible today mirrors the books found in the scrolls.
Well please give me book, chapter, and verse for the woman being call a dog by Jesus. And Jesus mission on earth had nothing to do with political correctness. Jesus had 36 months to save the world from sin. And He fulfilled His mission. He fulfilled the 300 Old Testament prophecies which verified who He really was, and then they murdered Him. The choice of heaven or hell is up to us now. Live for Christ, or be part of Satans movement.
Good points. I figure I shouldn't debate this one since I'm not a Christian. My only say on the Bible is that it's obviously a distortion of what should have been a figurative folk collection. Jesus in that sense was the mahn dude.
The Bible is way to involved to be a simple folk collection. It is the only Book I know of that writes history before it happens. Th Jews in Israel today are not back there because of luck or accident. The Bible states that near the end of time God would allow the Jews to return to Israel. He is doing this to set the stage to reveal to the Jews first and the world second who He is. The Bible states that Jerusalems East gate would have another structure built onto it and that Gate would be sealed. It states that no man will be allowed to pass through it and it will be sealed up until the Prince to come enters it. The prophecy states not to worry this prophecy will not fail. Jerusalems East Gate is sealed today just like the prophecy said it would be. Two attemps to break through the gate and destroy the prophecy have failed, just like the Bible said they would. It's a shame few people have ever really considered these prophecies.
The Prince to come is the same one who fulfilled the 300 Old Testament prophecies. The Old Testament states that all of the prophecies would have to be fulfilled before the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed. The only person in history who fulfilled those prophecies, was Jesus Christ.
