And the last one I had was a temporary job very recently. And thank god it was, because it is a soul-sucking job.

Can anyone suggest to me something I can do that isn't a miserable, impersonal, faceless job?

I have about 500 dollars to my name right now and I have no clue how I'm supposed to save money when I have to pay half of my paycheck for rent, and the other half for food. How does anyone do this??

Only way to save money if you cant get a better paying job is get a roomate or spouse or move in with family. Personally i would rather not be able to save money then get a roomate but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

You could move to a cheaper area of the country to live in. I don't know what the cost of living is in Florida but I would think it's kind of high. I know where I live houses sell for a fraction of what they sell for in other places. The cost of living is much lower.

I think its just one of those things people like to say because they think it sounds hippie and anti establishment and all that jazz, but in reality its basically impossible to get out of the money game unless you want to be homeless and begging for money all the time - and even then, you're still hustling for money.

The closest someone can come to getting out of the game is to buy land and put in a LOT of effort to make it self sustainable. There used to be a poster here that was as close to being self sufficient as anyone I've met and he still wasn't completely there. He generated some of his power but not all. He invested years of his time and money. I think he was from Canada so I don't know about property tax laws there but in America that's the biggest hurdle I've found. Even if you own land and support yourself completely off the land, you still have to pay property taxes to the government overlords who rent the land to you. No one can ever truly own anything.

and of course, its difficult to buy land when you're living pay check to pay check.

If you would like something that is not impersonal or faceless, what about trying something in sales. Something like radio shack or walmart. A friend of my stepdaughter moved to Florida with her boyfriend a month ago and is working at radio shack now. She loves it - definitely not impersonal.

I think the place you should start is asking yourself this....if money were not an issue at all and you could do anything you want...what would you be doing? You may or may not get to do exactly that thing but you might as well decide what would make you happiest and then go from there. Maybe you can find a similar job that pays enough.

I didn't respond to the last poster when she said that because I didn't feel like arguing lol but yeah, honestly the only way to not care about getting money is to be homeless and starving.

I hate how the world is as much as every other hippie, but I realize that it's only possible to survive if you make money. Nobody likes it, but it just is. Humans are the only living beings that pay to live on Earth.

It's one thing to not be able to pay for food and rent, but it's another when people make you feel like you're the scum of the Earth because you're down and out. My fiance's family directly equates your worth as a human being with whether or not you have a job. It doesn't matter that I take care of the household and an elderly grandmother-in-law or whatever. I've been out of work for two months and that means I'm garbage.

Employment rates are aggregate measures across an entire country . . . you (one person) getting or not getting a job doesn't prove or disprove national averages, which can be going down even when you happen to get a job (probably because you have an awesome resume) ;)

it is indeed extremely hard to find a job. and the kicker is that post-secondary education is getting much more expensive and much less likely to land you employment upon completion. I feel really sorry for the next generation.

He was also eating only tuna and this began to diminish his mental and physical capacity, which helped him make the mistakes necessary in order to be arrested.

That's what I've been saying. These people that are 20 years older than us think it should be so easy for us to "just go to college" and "just get a job". Of course it seems that way when they think it's the same as when they did it. And they're established in their lives now, they don't relate to us.

I know people who went to college and are having just as much trouble as I am finding a job. There are countries that pay YOU to get an education. I would definitely have gone if it meant learning and getting paid. This country is just pathetic. I have no money, no job, and funding for food stamps has been cut too.

Some economists say this the current economy is worse than the Great Depression! The people who got established in their careers before shit hit the fan, or were otherwise dealt a good hand either a) don't understand/relate or b) don't give a shit cuz it only slightly affects them. Some people truly feel hopeless these days. Then there are the rich that only care slightly because they feel they could be getting even richer, but don't have to worry about how they will eat today, or how they will get a job...their unemployment gap getting longer and longer, and the likelihood of becoming employed slimmer and slimmer.

The employment rate today is THE LOWEST EVER RECORDED!! Seriously, unemployment rate doesn't tell the whole story. It only takes into account people actively searching for employment (and I believe but could be wrong) that were employed recently. The others like those that have become hopeless and given up, or turned to freelance of off the books work are not figured as unemployed as they are not considered part of the "workforce". It doesn't matter cuz employers aren't interested in these people anyways.

This is a truly tragic state we're in, and some people just weren't dealt a good hand or got caught at a wrong time and don't have the experience, employment history w/e to be "employable", and some have other issues as well and this isn't a good environment to improve your resume in these situations.

God, so depressing. And yeah it is unfortunate when people like me complain about the government and people turn around and say well you can accept money from the government. Its not like I don't want to work. I do! I want a job but no one is giving me the chance to earn the money to support myself. I shouldn't be made to feel guilty for the meager amount of money I get for food. My fiance and I both get foodstamps but if we didn't have help from family as well we wouldn't have enough food to live.

I think jobs are there if you have needed skills and know somebody, that's the key you have to know somebody. I fell on hard times and briefly took a job for about a year with a former client who needed someone in-house to help his growing company. But if it wasn't for already having that connection I probably would not have been offered that position.

And getting a college degree today is the equivalent of a high school diploma. In fact since everybody is getting Bachelor Degrees, employers and raised the bar and now look for give preference to Masters Degrees. And even then there's still no guarantee of finding work.

Exactly, Mike. Now I'm put in the position where I have to have people doing favors for me, trying to hook me up with a job. I LOATHE being in anyone's debt. I know that there are people who do nice things and that's that. But my fiance's family are people who will throw it in your face that they did something for you and you have to be their bitch. It's not happening with me. I don't want them to help me but I need a job. I wish I had friends here who would help me out.
