Decided to dread my hair about a week ago from today. Anyway I did them myself by just back combing but I started using a crochet hook today. Been for a couple of swims in the ocean and all that Anyway heres the pics, they're in order from like the first day I put them in until now
Hey thanks Glen, appreciate it man. Im not using wax at all but I backcomb/crochet them all the time. So not really natural but I don't care
You Only Backcomb ONCE, If You Keep Doing It You Undo The Dreading Process Each Time And You WILL NEVER GET DREADS.... Just Remember What Your Mother Told You When You Were 13..... .... JOEL, TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF IT........AND KEEP THEM OFF... Cheers Glen.
nice! I'd cool it on the crocheting though. I did a little crocheting experiment when I started my dreads about 2 months ago. Some of them I crocheted and some of them I didn't. At the time the crocheted ones looked way neater, but once I stopped all the broken hairs made their way out and I have a lot of loosies in the ones that I crocheted. They warn against it for a reason I swear! If you're really paranoid about it being frizzy, you could use some aloe vera gel to calm it down. It doesn't leave a lot of residue, and it doesn't moisturize, but it will "gel" it down a bit. So if you're doing it for neatness, I'd just let it look a little ugly for a few weeks/months, or risk getting damaged hair. Sweet hair though, seriously, dreads are going to look sexayy on you. Goood luck
Thanks for the info guys! Appreciate it, I will cool down on the back combing/ crocheting... They're coming along pretty sweet for a week old. Might take a pic later! Lol Glen how could I forget
yeah, you only need to backcomb once, or you destroy your progress every time. toss the hook too and just let the ocean help you along.
I cant wait to get in the ocean with mine. Im hoping the surf will tear up my crochet work. They look good!
Sweet guys, If it wasn't so cold at the moment then I'd be in the ocean every day. Is it cool to back comb the ends? When they come out of course
backcombing the ends is a futile pursuit. often the loose hair at the ends is too short to lock up until much later on. unless you crochet, which i wouldn't recommend. i think you should take a look at the thread "read this before posting" it has a really good FAQ section. I know it's tough, but please please, just let em be.
