i dont know if anyone has posted this yet... so sorry if it has........

Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has revealed he wants to make a film about Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett. Depp said, "he dreamed of being a rock and roll guitar player and thought that a movie based on the story of Syd Barrett, original frontman for Pink Floyd, would be a great idea."

Yeah, I read about this... If it happens, though, I don't know if it will be a good thing or a bad thing.

    This is a good idea...
Often actors or directors talk to film a movie 'bout Brian Jones too...
    But nothing is really done...
They only film cult "well-known" rock martyrs as Janis Joplin(they film it actually) or Jim Morisson.

They can do film about other great lost rock n roll member...who were know at that time but a lot of people forgot now as:

-Paul Kossoff - Fantastic Guitar Player of the great 70's band Free (1950-1976 dead at 25)
-Keith Moon - The crazy and maybe best rock n roll drummer (1947-1978 dead at 31)
-Jimmy Mc Culloch- Solo Guitarist of Wings...the most young and rock n roll member of the band...he was the most fucked up and often in opposition with Paul Macca ...he leave the band mostly 'cause the band were not playin' enough loud material, he join the reformed Small Faces and then died at 26 with coke-heroin-marijuane and other kind of product in his blood (1953-1979)
-John Bonham the legendary drummer of mostly an overdose of alcohol at 32 (1948 - 1980)
    etc... etc...
Imagine a film about those man and i don't had the time to make a proper list of cult dead rock n roller of 20 or 30 names!

The Johnny Depp idea is probably more a dream that a real project (even if i hope that is dream will took shape one day)....
I don't see the Hollywood machinery very interested in a film 'bout Syd Barrett......Madness and wild creation is not their speciality
But the Floyd are cult so it's not impossible...i cross my fingers ...

wouldnt that just be the coolest thing ever... my favourite actor, playing one of my favourite musicians.

but if it does happen, it could be bad for fans of syd, cos therellprobably be thousands of little wannabe hippies yelling "omg i love syd dark side of the moon is teh bestest album ever omg!!"

that would be great. I would love it if they made a movie about him, and even more if Depp played him! Depp is such an incredible actor. He gets really deep into his roles.

I wouldn't mind a little bit of hype either. Our generation could use some good rock and roll, no matter how it comes about. A little attention never hurt anyone! ;)

This is awesome. Johnny Depp is one of the few actors I actually respect; he doesn't just do films for the money.

    I luv depp...

and i think it would be a great movie

    he is an amzing actor

and if u ever noticed he doesn't play normal rolls..only wierd ones..i think he is very eccentric and fabulous!!

for instance: bennie&joone, what's eating gilbert grape, fear and loathing, willie wonka, edward scissor hands...................Just to name a few

how many actors can make it to the A list and not do a regular movie!!!

So Professor Depp will help them to see who really was Mr Barrett... But i'm thinking of this now... Who will be the Director of the movie...
Even with Depp ...the director's choice is super essential to do a good movie...

the best directors to film this are from my point of vue:

Terry Gilliam- my fave to film this ...he made only mind altereted films...and he's english...

Martin Scorsese- he's a real rock n roll lover...but is he really exeptionnal to film a kaleidoscope film à la Syd Barrett? ...nothing is sure

Oliver Stone : he likes rock n roll too...but has maybe more experience in psychedelic films than Scorsese (with Born killers or The Doors)

Spike Jonze : he never does a rock film but he's really one of the best young directors of the last 10 years (he recently film the fantastic film "Adaptation").

    etc...

Johnny Depp is a great actor, and despite all the thousands of rednecks around here that are all "Oh He was so cute in Pirates of the Caribbean and even though i have never heard of his other movies i consider myself a huge fan", I have a ton of respect for him.

Cult rock movies are going to be big in the coming years, the Joy Division movie is in pred-prodution according to MOJO.

Yes... but not all of it..... the childhood seens where about roger waters, but a lot of the insanity parts where based off of Syd..... Like the shaving of the body hair..... trashing the hotel room.... etc.
