Hello everyone! I have really thick curly hair that tends to get really frizzy in wet conditions. I've been thinking about getting dreads for quite a while. I'm going to college in september and i've had such an awful year this year so i see them as a transformation, not just physically but mentally as well. Does anyone have simalar hair to mine that's dreaded? I want to get a rough idea of how they will form with my hair type. Pictures will be great Also what do i do if head lice attack? My little nieces get them almost every week and if they stay over for the night, we all get 'em thanks!
Yeah your hair will dread up, it should stop going frizzy because it will be matted together. As for the lice thing theres nothing you can do to stop them but you could prevent them, not getting to close to nit ridden kids, tea tree help, and wax can help to keep them out - if thats the road you want to go down. As for getting rid of them there is some stuff you can get that dissolves the eggs, that or pouring vodka over your head and leaving it for a few hours then washing out should get rid of them.
or u can just buy one of many cures avaliable at a farmacy, they probably cost less then a bottle of vodka too
Thats why I said if thats the road she is going to go down. Its up to the person if they want to use wax or not, dont get me wrong i dont like the stuff but it has to be a personal choice
friz is sort of unavoidable with dreads, especially baby ones. they take a long time to lock up so they can be sort of a frizzy mess for a while, but wait it out, it's worth it. there are plenty of over-the-counter lice remedies you could use, and i have heard that alcohol works, too. curly hair is usually really easy to dread because it's already sort of wrapped up in itself. almost every kind of hair will dread.
my friend has hair like your, curly and a tendency to frizz. his will dread itself if he leaves it for more than 3 days, so i would suggest the natural route, but remembering to rip em apart as the form. unless you want huge congos of course! as for the lice DELACET!!!! its herbal it works its suitable for dreads and doesnt need combing!
by your description we have the same hair. as for lice... ive never had that problem however I hear soaking your head in 100% isopropyl and putting the locks in a bag for an hour or so works like a charm.
I have kind of curly/wavyish hair, and i've kind of just left it to it's own devices; It knotts up pretty well and easy, though i've been coaching it along with rubbing my beanie into my head Also, i kind of burrow my head into my pillow, gives it the same affect really I'm only about 1 or 2 months into it, it's so easy and time flies, i didn't even mean to go natural; I was just too lazy to assemble my mates in time and it seemed to do it on it's own. Thanks everyone! There's a lot of good advice here and i will take it all on board My hair tends to dread naturally too if i don't comb it properly, so maybe it won't take as long as i thaught it might lol also something i forgot to ask in the original post, is it easy to get rid of your dreads quickly? For example if i applied for a job i really want but they tell me "only if you lose the dreads" Thanks again to everyone who's replied
if you think you will need to get rid of the locks any time soon it is not the lifestyle for you IMHO.
I won't have to worry for a good couple of years, i'm going to university and the industry i plan to go in is not really fussed about personal apperance anyway. But the reason i ask is just in case, last resort kinda thing.
if someone won't hire you because of your hair style that is discrimination. so as long as you keep them clean then people shouldn't have a problem with them hopefully
