I woke up this morning and put a scoop of fresh, dark coffee beans into my coffee grinder, pushed the lid down to start grinding and nothing happened. The familiar friendly sound of pulverization didn’t greet me; instead there was a cold, decaffeinated silence. After a minute of trying different power outlets throughout the house, I knew what I had to do: I had to go in. I took out my trusty (and rusty) screwdriver and carefully took off the bottom piece. I examined the innards, looking for evidence of burnt wires, but found none.

I did however, notice that it was wet. Wet? Who the fuck got my coffee grinder wet? (OK, probably me.) I then lay it down on its side, bottom still open with organs exposed, and placed it about 2 feet in front of the weak space heater in my bathroom. Five minutes later, I was happy to see that everything had dried and I proceeded to put it back together. I plugged it in, pressed down on the lid and—it’s alive!

So that’s my small accomplishment so far for the day.

What have you accomplished, or what do you hope to accomplish today?

I love fixin stuff. I used to break stuff when I was a kid just so I could try to fix it. At least that's what I tell myself.

One of my brothers was the same way. Part of the reason he would take things apart would be to see how it worked.

Mine wouldn't play for a while and then I finally figured out there was a piece of tape stuck in there.

Funny, I do too. For the coffee grinder it was a spring that had no other function than to simply aid in popping off the bottom piece.
