No malicuous intent meant. But admin has not responded for a long time to my request to delete my content, but only made me inactive. Just wanna go in, delete my account (not just make it inactive) on a phpbb board - is there (an easy?) way?

paypal $ to each moderator, at least 4 figures

probably won't work, but you might make them happy

I don't think you're going to have too much luck here.

Firstly, I dunno how mods will feel about this being here if they notice.

Secondly, what you're asking doesn't sound like the easiest job.

Your best bet is probably figuring out an admin's credentials and using them to delete your account. If they notice, they'll surely change the password, and may even restore your account (if they realize they were hacked, they may reverse some of their recent actions)

You can Google password cracking if you choose to try this.

Other than that, I think you're talking about a really complex project, that couldn't possibly be talked through. (Could be wrong though)

    I can sugggest a quasi-legal approach.
Make 3 copies of a letter in which you state the you consider the information in the database that pertains to your person to be private and confidentail. In lieu of a formal agreement or published policy detailing how this information will be used and protected; You request the forum owner delete your account and all record therein. Failure to comply or discuss by a specified date will result in legal actions being filed against his person.

Make sure the letter you write clearly shows that a copy is being sent to a lawyer. Then send 2 copies by snail mail to the site owner and 1 copy to your lawyer.

I'm not sure if there is really anything really legally possible you can do to somone for refusing to delete an account you signed up for. But like 99% of similar shit, I'm sure the site owner willl laugh, call you an asshole and just end up deleting the account because he's scared you will follow through.

Yeah, I´m pretty sure you can´t take legal action against someone for not taking down information that you yourself posted on the internet.

though youre right, he might delete the account just to avoid the hassle.

Every message board I've ever posted on has their own version of that rule.

I think that you might be able to do even better than quasi-legal

what are the terms that you agreed to for the site? there's a good chance that you granted rights to the site to display your content

what are the reasons you want the account deleted? have you suffered a financial loss that you can document? has it made a medical condition worse? are you being harassed? are you endangered by the content remaining public?

in some states, you can send what is called a "thirty day demand" letter. you send the letter, citing the relevant state law (chapter x, article x) and noting the damages you have incurred and the action that you want taken. they have to respond to your letter within thirty days, or you can screw them.

you have to sign and date your letter. I think that you also have to send it by certified mail, return receipt requested. also keep a copy

there is a good chance that they would see something like that and just decide it's not worth it to keep your content around.

if you don't get the response you want, you can go to a lawyer. if you qualify, there are also free legal aid organizations out there.

the site will have some pretty firm ground to stand on, but you might have some leverage. especially if you can reasonably claim that the site did not make you aware of the site terms

honey will probably work better than vinegar, so make sure that you've exhausted the nice approach first. if you can explain any personal hardship you've experienced as a result of the material being up, they might come around

    good luck!

You've got the right idea. But you're all over the place and I know because I'm a lawyer.

Now If I had to go after a site, as in the above circumstances, I would attack the method of inscription. There is no paperwork, no signed document and no way to assure that the person who claimes to have registered is indeed the one that did. It could have been anyone in his household or has access to his computer. And if there is WIFI access I could argue possible culprit on exterior. Legally and in court, there must be no doubt as to the identity of the person agreeing. If there is even the smallest doubt, it'll be junked.

As long as a client doesn't admit to me that they actually signed up for the account. The odds are in my favor that I would be able to get the account deleted and perhaps, if I asked politely, even a a court ordered audit of the other accounts registered. The problem with these T.O.S agreements is they are not contracts and site owners are trying to turn them into contracts by quasi-estoppel and/or acceptance.

The ony problem in this is that given the "kiss my ass attitude" of the Internet. Trying to convience a webmaster or site owner that you didn't inscribe might be like banging your head against the sky. I would pretty much say you that if you wanted to go this route, you need to have a lawyer draw up the letter and send it. Because anything less than that will only result in being insulted and ignored. Which is the reason why I suggested the previous method.

No, just a poor attempt at being a smart ass.

But VoT and e7m8 offered some solid advice. Of course, I would like to do this the best, most honest way possible and they offered some better alternatives.

Sadly, the internet is kind of like the wild west and people should not be blamed if they want to become more private again, or delete their own content.

well the idea would work..most forums give smods a delete button..and Im pretty sure if they hard delete then the only way to get it back is to do a restore if they have backups

maybe just ask them nice..or ask them to delete certain posts instead of the whole account
