I only moved to Australia last year. I don't know about you guys who don't live here, but when I was living in New Zealand kangaroos were one of the first things that came to mind when I thought about Aussie.

    They are gorgeous animals.

In the news lately, however, there have been many reports of kangaroo abuse. This mainly comes from young people looking to have some fun, and unfortunately their idea of "fun" is to injure and kill native kangaroos.

I think it's disgusting, inhumane, and shameful. Here's a pic taken in Janurary of this year:

An RSPCA spokesperson said, “The juvenile animal would have been slowly strangled by this purpose-built noose, dying a painful and prolonged death. Needless to say setting snares to kill any animal is both inhumane and illegal.

“The noose is designed specifically so that as a kangaroo bounds through the area, its head would become ensnared in the noose, basically hanging the animal.”

Click here if you'd like to read more about that particular incident.

Apparently it is also "fun" to throw arrows at them. I've actually known people who have attempted to do this.

What the hell is some people's problem? Do they seriously lead such a sad, pathetic, lonely life that they have to go out and purposely hurt kangaroos?

When I was in Australia, my buddy invited me to his uncle's farm to go kill some. They were a pest though.

I never went, they are way too cute to kill.

    I have no idea. :(

Another thing that annoys me is that I think people who do this kind of thing get off with a slap on the wrist.

I don't really agree with killing them at all, but I absolutely fucking hate these stupid teenagers who go down to the bush or the golf course or whatever and shoot them and hit them with their cars and bow-n-arrow them..

I wish they'd just go to a party and OD on a couple of pills or something. :p

    those poor animals :(

when i was younger, i saw these teenage boys tie a rope around a sheeps neck hang him out of the window and drive and drag the poor sheep along the ground :(

then the sheeps head was chopped off and they left it across from my friends house.

i still remember it, i was about 6 or seven.

i fukn hate animal cruelty  it really annoys me

    Aww poor sheep. :(

I know, it's ridiculous. I've heard of people putting kittens in microwaves.

I bet people who do this have rotten hearts.

There's sick people like this all around the world.....Here there's tons of wildlife and people will shoot at various animals for no reason other than their own apparent enjoyment...they don't need the meat, nor do they even use it. We're animals too.....perhaps we should think about that more often.

Why are we such a cruel species?

That seriously made me sick to my stomach

If I ever got my hands on the ****'s who did this I'd strangle them, see how much they like it. I'm not even a violent person by nature.

I knew a few bloke's who go out roo shooting. Key word: knew.

back in the early 1970's, the h.e.b supermarket chain, here in texas, u.s.a. sold kangaroo meat that was imported from australia.
several people even started up 'kangaroo farms/ranches.'
neither of those experments with kangaroo meat lasted long. americans did not like the taste of kangaroo meat. i tried a sample of it back then... it taste ok, nothing to write home about though. chicken taste better then kangaroo hands down; well, at least i think so. i have never eaten kangaroo since and, i don't care to ever again either.

i get that same type of sick shit where i live. it is not kangaroos that are being killed for "fun" or "sport" but, deer.
this past winter, while taking my two dogs for a walk in the woodlands behind
my house, i came across three different deer cadavers, all with their heads cut off and, the rest of the deers bodys were left behind to rot.
some assholes were poaching for trophies to mount on their walls.

as someone who has had to do hunting and kill animals for food i, have never understood the mentality of people who kill for "sport" or "fun." is it just me who is too dense to understand the "fun" and "sport" in killing?
when i killed, it was with the full knowledge that i am taking a life. i don't like doing it yet, if i don't do it, i will die of starvation. that which dies will keep me alive.
i only killed when i had too for food but, WHAT KIND OF SICK FUCKS ONLY KILL FOR "FUN" OR "SPORT"? I JUST DON'T GET IT!

I know... I just don't get it. I kind of want to run some kind of psych test on the mofo's who do it..

Mmhm vibes the pole pics tore me to pieces too. :(

You'll be happy to know that I'm pretty sure that 'roo made a full recovery. :)

    (I'll just check..)

    Yep. :)

    http://www.smh.com.au/environment/c...er-kangaroo-arrow-shooting-20090520-bew9.html

"An eastern grey kangaroo was found shot in the head with an arrow that had penetrated through the bone and into the nasal cavity at the University Hill Estate in Bundoora on May 9.

After an operation its prospects of a full recovery are good."

I'm not sure if this is the same or a different kangaroo:

"Wildlife officials are expecting this kangaroo, found shot through the head by a crossbow arrow, to fully recover. The roo was found last Thursday at a park in suburban Melbourne."

    They sure do.

"Mudgee woman, Rosemary Neal, sustained severe facial and other injuries when she was attacked by a large kangaroo on her Common Road property about 4.30pm on Friday afternoon.
Mrs Neal, 65, was walking through a wooded area of the property on her way to tend to her horses when a two metre kangaroo attacked."

    http://www.mudgeeguardian.com.au/news/local/news/general/kangaroo-attack/1061042.aspx

Defending yourself (or trying to) against an animal that is going to severly hurt you is one thing. Deliberately going to seek these kangaroos out to harm them is another.

well if the people who did this were attacked, then maybe out of self defense....but knowing humanity, some innocent people are getting attacked and people who have not been harmed by kangas and toruting them...but that's just a wild assumption
