I take kava extract pills. Each of them has about 75 mg kavalactones or whatever in them, if you want to compare. I read that the islanders take like 1000 mg kavalactones in their hardcore drinks and start getting auditory hallucinations and call it entering the land of the dead. I normally take like 1 to 4 pills and can feel it. It makes me happier, more at peace, and significantly less shy. And I'm not a shy person. I like it in these smaller doses, enhancing my life, (I have gone to school like this maybe 10, 15 times), but not making it problematic. I plan on taking a higher dose in the next few weeks, like 1000mg kavalactones, so I'll post my experience here.

I took 15 pills, and it seemed a waste of good pills. THe effects didn't increase enough to make it worth it. I will stick to 2-4 pills.

Like so many natural products the concentration of actives vary from supplier to supplier, batch to batch. So unless its standardized to a certain concentration of kavalactones it is likely garbage. The higher Kavalactone products are come as a paste or as gel caps with a characteristic odor and peppery spicyness that numbs the mouth. Its true, the aeffect is mild sedative-hypnotic--the mind stays clear unlike with alcohol. It is not recommended to combine with alcohol because of concerns over liver toxicity.

ya I have always used standardized pills to much fun. I now have an ounce or so of waka-grade kava powder on the way, hope to make a drink of it.

erowid says an intoxicant and sedative
I read somewhere it works on the same receptors as alchohol.
For the my common effects, see my first post on this thread. I'd be happy to answer any more questions, I've only done it pry 15 or so times.

ummm it just feels really weird. I can't think of another way to describe it. I'm sorry.

Everything sort of works fine but you feel dizzy and just bizarre.
