My family & I plan to arrive at the gathering sometime during the start of the final week of June. I really want to be involved with set up & camp / kitchen during this gathering and plan to be centered in Kiddie Village. Anyone planning to be there around this time? What needs to be done, brought in, etc.? I would like to know what is most needed / helpful for us to bring so to help contribute w/ food, fun, shelter, etc. Would love to touch base with others planning to be centered in Kiddie Village.
If I had to guess I bet good strong rope is a prized item at kiddie village so they can make all sorts of swings. Cant have too many swings can ya? Mike...
rope is always kewl ,,, extra tarp or tents for supplies etc if one has them,,,, twine n bungis are also big helpers,,, ,,, when we know kidlings are round n have to have a kiddie setting,,, we generally try n have crayons markersm,,, poster board ,glittery stuff n paints,,,, as far as food we like to try n play snackmaster at times,,,, crackers, pnut butter, jelly,,, dried fruits, trail mix that kids can assemble there on site,... no bake cookie ingredients are good too,,,, some r actually pretty health n real easy to adapt to whatever folks enjoy,,,, n kids like helpin,,,,.. have also seen folks just bring in extra ol clothes n dressup stuff ,,, the lil girls seem to love turnin them selvesinto lil fairies n such... i generally try n keep things light n simple to avoid making several vehicle trips... and a big ol sack of kiddie things can be crammed into something pretty little and easy to traipse round with..
rope is good. Bungee cords too. I keep thinking about mosquito / fly netting for the kitchen and a privacy shelter for the shitter. My five year old is quite concerned about privacy for the shitter so we are bringing along a covered shelter that tarps or sheets, etc can hang from as privacy walls. If someone else has already built something for it then the cover will make a nice little play / sit area with shade.
The sheltered shitter is an awesoem idea,,, my daughters concerned with privacy too,,Think ill have to bring some extra tarps!!
a folding chair with a toilet seat rigged on it is great for the little ones,, a lot less frightning than squating over a slit trench.. little ones hell?/ we have one.. luv n lite
make your own cirtonella... essential oils of eucolyptus and lemon, mix inna spray bottle w/water. say no to DEET. SUNSCREEN can't emphasize that enough. Emergen-C drink mix...the natural alternative to gatorade and packs in like *BUTTA*
another great idea with the folding chair,,, I think Im definetly gonna do that,, i think my daughter will be way less freaked out that way
I'm with you. I just read your message to my hubby & he said that he has been thinking of shopping the Goodwills for one for this very purpose! He isn't fancying the shitters experienced from our last gathering before an RV. When it comes to it, I am with the little ones and prefer a seat & privacy to squating over a trench with a line of folks trying to politely look the other way while waiting for someone to finish. Gotta love it ...
Your mention of swings reminded me of the greatest kiddie village I have yet to see. We stumbled upon the Florida regional family gathering in Ocala Nat. forest sometime in the mid 90's. Man, it brought tears of joy to me to see family since we were on vacation with blood-family and more than needing a rainbow fix. Anyway, Kid camp was deluxe ... tree houses and swings, all types of contraptions on bamboo legs for the kids to play in / on. Someone had brought their birds (parrots or such variety) It was pure beauty to see and so delightful. Funny thing is that after an afternoon of playing there with my niece, we returned back to her mom and when I told her to tell her mom what she had seen at Kiddie camp she gleefully bellowed, "I saw a naked man walking on his hands!"
Lmao Hahaha ,,, Isnt it funny that kids always say the best stuff just in time to embarrass the hell outta ya
Howdy all Another great idea (which I did at my first gathering) Take a 5 gal bucket with lid (kind like they put donut icing in) A porto pottie seat (like kind they have to sit on toilet with adustable attatchments) used for handi-capped etc/ Place the seat over the bucket (which fits beautifully) Make sure to put in sanitize stuff/ an a bit of water first After use/ take off seat/ put on lid/ Great for those little ones...an first timers like me Take to your shitter/ dump/ cover/ ashes or whatever Little tent works great/ with upper little window flaps/ Don't forget ...tissue...jugs of water/for toilet/ little battery light is nice too. He heh he I'm spoiled LOL
Kiddie Village has so much variety going on! I would say for your own most rewarding experience, bring what you enjoy! If you're into food and prep, bring snacks or spices...If you're artistic, those kinds of things go over like crazy! My littlest last year made crowns, capes and majic wands with sticks and curly ribbons and one is still on the dashboard of my car.
Hi folks,At our first gatherings we came in with garden carts full of tents, cots, camp beds, sleeping bags, hammocks, camp furniture, shower shelter, porta potti, marine coolers, camp stove/oven,ect.Folks called me the house.Today I pull it all in on one used golf cart and shit in the tent on a piece of paper.
Me and my wife attended our first gathering last year in WV. We left the kids at home last year and took some lame ass baboylns that didn't appericate it at all. So this year where taking some cats we know will enjoy it; our kiddies. So lots of rope and maybe a homemade potty huh? Anyone else coming up from AZ to CO. Last year I saw a very cool wrap like thing somebodey was using to carry his son on his back does anybody know how to make this???
In my experience, the 5 gal bucket thing has a fatal flaw. The inside of the buckets gets all shitty, 'cause no one scrubs them, and no one wants to pack out a shitty 5 gal bucket with the bottom cut out when they break camp, so they leave it for the clean up crew, and if that happens to be me, I pick the thing up with a really long stick and take it to a hot fire. I figger the plastic fumes will sterilize the bacteria...
