For the Royal throne of Fitness I Nominate the earl of Squat. I say to thee the squat is king of exercises. weighted or un weighted, front, back, or over head. the Squat is amonth the most ancient, effective and proven exercises . Who do you nominate?
I'm with you on the squat. It is my absolute favorite in the whole world of exercises. And you can do it anywhere. Other than that I love to do calf raises because you can do them anywhere too. Either on a flat surface, or on a step.
any compound exercise rocks...dips/pull ups/military press/bench press/any number of rows..but yeah, squat/deadlift are probably the two best for putting on mass
So squats are just all around bad ass huh? Maybe I should start working more on them. I can never really keep my balance well doing them though, oh well, guess practice makes perfect.
Lacy Feet - I agree with walking whole heartedly. It's excellent because almost anyone can do it regardless of co-ordination or experience. Excellent call, because I would not recoment the squat to my mother or grany. Soulless - The squat earned his crown in 2000 BC by Concuring rome with nothing more than his favorite martial arts moves (Fireball uppercut and a knee to the groin). After concuring rome, Squat declared himself king of exercises, and Demonstrated the techniques thaat made him a hero. Rome then became the king of empires, not counting the fires and lead pipes. So yes, adding squats to your repotiare would be advantageous! It helps in all athletic movements, annd builds power in the lower body. Squats can make you much stronger and faster. You may want to try doing free squats (without weight) to get the motion down. if balance or strength are problems, you can use a door knob (holding the knob on both sides of the door, the door SHOULD be open) this can aid.
I recommended the squat to my mom. The physioball squat. And actually the squat is one of the most important exercise for older people. (if you go into that specialty of personal training, man you can make a bundle, however, I'm not crazy about older folks). But really, what is it that older people have trouble doing? Getting in and out of a chair, well that motion is a squat. I mean just imagine not being able to sit on the toilet. Now, of course I wouldn't suggest them to go to a rack and start squatting, but there are many variations of the exercise that you can modify it for just about anyone.
