I just got back from a great trip thru Nevada and Arizona. took a night stay in Kingman. It was a lot nicer stay than my first visit there. Wonder if any of you Older Hippies were county guests there Like I was in 1972. At that time it worked like this, there were border agricultural stops between Nevada and Arizona. gave them a opportunity to stop each car and take a quick look. Any " Hippy' looking folks passing through were radioed ahead to the Famous speed traps. where of course you could not help but get caught in. 65 speed limit to 25 at the city line. Well that December I was Hitching home from Oregon, to Jersey for Christmas but took the southern rout due to weather and allure of rout 66. Spent two days before going through ever thing I owned, made 100% sure there was not a seed in my cloths, as Already leaned a lesson on that in Texas that spring. Well hooked up with a fellow hiker, got picked up by a cool Hippy fellow, all crying to each other we had no pot, hash or mesc. One thing lead to another and while they could not find there stash, the cops sure did. Spent three weeks there, not bad though as was almost a commune inside. Redneck town, with a jail full of Hippies. by the way, both the guys that swore they had nothing ( but of course did) were out in two days, cutesy of there parents. Me three fucking weeks, Hippies are like most folks and not to be trusted that much I guess. Anyway had some really great roommates, ( except for the guys with the DT'S). Did get home fro Christmas. A few years later the Border/Kingman/Hippie deal was covered in Rolling Stone. Just wondered if any you out there were part of it? Buy the way if you are the ones that put me there, you should of at least tuned me on while we were still on the road!
Kingman sux big time.My daughter and grandaughter live there. My wife and I lived there for 3 looong months. They have more fuckin' narcs then any place I have ever been.Crack monkies all over the place,a total bad scene.
I lived in Kingman for about 6 yrs, just got back to NH last month. Kingman (& the whole Mohave county) has a high rate for HIV, teen pregnancies, speed freaks, and most (not all)jobs will pay only minimum wage $5.15/hr, more teens get into some sorta trouble, tons of thieves & homeless on every street. I worked in the Kingman hospital for almost 2 yrs and saw all kinds of people stagger in with more problems then you could imagine.
