I am buying a new TV for a front room on the ground level. The room has floor lighting and windows on the wall oppsite the TV. It is NOT the primary home theater, and it will be watched casually by my family and guests. My choices have been narrowed down to two sets: 40" LCD - 5000:1 - 60lbs. 42" Plasma - 10,000:1 - 85lbs. all other specs and the pricing are similar. Both are 720p sets. The one I buy will be mounted. I like the color depth of the plasma better, but do not like the way a plasma screen reflects lighting. I have not noticed any issues with burn in or artifacts in the few demos I have done. Given this scenario, which would you choose?
Get something smaller, Donate the rest or something. Do you really need a big screen? I'm sure seeing the image is ok on a regular screen is fine enough. zoom playback and seeing each indivual hair is not necessary. It's a waste of money, manpower, and just plain uneccessary. Wouldn't food be much better? ps. you sound like a total tool. whining about a tv size. If you wanna impress people take a picture of your cock and put that up instead. Gets the point across better.
Honestly i dont care about either Hell during the superbowl i got a guy gimme a good deal on a perfectly great condition 65 inch projection screen TV, i only payed 250 for it, now thats a fucken good deal, it was a bitch to get up the stairs and i had to take the hinges off all the doors and all...but damn i think it was worth it. I dont understand the whole HD and Plasma and all that bullcrappery, i think its just another way to sell TVs at higher prices because of the "Shiney!!"
for a moment i thought that said LSD or plasma..thought u was taking about donating blood..but anywho..i guess i'm slightly drunk..and tired..I wouldn't know..i just use my computer.
Wow. I posted this because I was wanting advice from people that might have some experience with these types of TVs. I had no idea that people would think I was "whining" about this. Does it say anywhere that I am complaining or upset by this? If you thought I was trying to brag, don't you think I would have posted about higher end stuff if I was trying to show off? I'm talking about the standard selling sets you would see for sale by walking into any average Wal-Mart. This stuff isn't the 10-70 thousand dollar cutting edge technology TV. I have friends that post here that I thought might have some insight that I hadn't thought of. Why I got called a tool for this is beyond me, but whatever makes you feel better. And if you think I am spending a lot of money on this, it's probably much less than you think, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the question I posted. Why post in this thread if you feel that way? And Joe, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I am unfortunately one of "those people" that work in a tech environment and therefore I am caught up in all of this stuff. HD is way things are going so I want a set that will be around for a while that can take advantage of the technology. Although i feel like you do about the whole 1080p craze that is going on now. I don't see a need for that just yet, so I am taking advantage of it by buying the 720p models that everyone is unloading now so they can make room for the 1080p models. And justagrrl420, I can appreciate your comment. At least you aren't giving me advice on a subject you admit to knowing not much about. And I can see how one might think I was deciding over spending money on drugs or donating blood... haha!
i would think for a REALLY big screen, why not go projection, through a fisheye onto the inside of a curved surface screen that surrounds the audience. your own little home i-max. as a monitor. driven by a computer. running a 3d world. i can't see anything comming out of the media propiganda machine i can immagine for the life of me i'd want to be immerced in though! but if you want to use big screen for a monitor, i think that would be completely cool. when you said lcd or plasma, the first thought that came to my mind was laptops (and flat screen monitors), NOT idiot boxes. =^^= .../\...
Computers ARE idiot boxes. (At least where I work...) And oddly enough, fujitsu has the technology to do exactly what you mentioned. They have a prototype for a 108" flat panel that weighs around 50 lbs. And the technology used allows the screen to be curved into a personal IMax. And while I take watching TV seriously, I do not take the content of what I watch seriously. It is an escape from the real world. Yeah, the content on TV is typically pretty stupid and ridiculous, and that's why it makes for a good escape.
I would defiently go with an LCD instead of plasma. We have a LCD tv at the fire house and my friend has a plasma. The LCD tv has a better picture............... ~namaste~
And are they the same saize and brand? Between the two I am looking at I noticed a few things. The plasma seemed to have richer colors, but I also saw more pixelation on it than the LCD. The LCD definitely had better whites, but the plasma had deeper blacks. What specifically stood out about the LCD? And have you noticed any glaring on the plasma, or have you not really noticed? Thanks for the constructive answer!
My friends plasma is 50" and the LCD at the firehouse is 56". I do not know the make and models of each one but they were purchased in the same year. The LCD defiently has a better picture. Sorry man, I wish I could help you out more.......... ~namaste~
I like plasmas more, but if you are using that TV in the daytime more often, go with the LCD. In your situation: Watch it mostly in the day= LCD Watch it mostly at night= Plasma
