Had this conversation recently with some friends and we all had different ideas about what US state is the most timid, unassuming, never-see-on-the-news, kind of state. The kind of state that when you hear it mentioned virtually nothing comes to mind. The poll listed here is 7 states that I personally think to be the least remarkable for various reasons. Feel free to list more and reasoning as well. Maine - The most backwoods in the northeast but Stephen king novels are all based there. Utah - Outdoorsy state but the surrounding states are so much better for this. I'm sure Utah has mountains but they are bigger in CO and the deserts are dryer in AZ, NV and NM. I think mormons are the biggest thing this state has to offer, but they are paradied so much that it is quite a substantial quirk. Maryland - I have never met an interesting person from this state. Suburbia, white bread and shoes that fit. Delaware - similar to Maryland but smaller Arkansas - just.....nothing North Dakota - give it to Canada Idaho - They have potatoes and absolutely nothing else. It is totally glossed over in all national media coverage and never really mentioned if you don't live there, and maybe even if you do.
North Dakota is pretty damn bland. The people are nice here, though... and we have clean air... That ought to count for something...?
I've found Maine to be a remarkable state from Kennebunkport to Moosehead Lake, From Baxter State Park to The Allagash Wilderness Waterway (site of the Famous Allagash UFO Abduction) and If you've ever read the Stephen King short story The Long Walk my girlfriend and I drove the entire route. Utah: The Bonneville Salt Flats are cool and there's the Wasatch Range, but unfortunately there are simply too many Mormons Maryland: Well it is situated on Chesapeake Bay Delaware: Next Arkansas: One hugh Swamp North Dakota: I loved that movie Fargo, and during the cold war they had like a million nuclear silos situated throughout the state Idaho: More White Supremacist Compounds than McDonalds But the least remarkable state is "little Rhody" Rhode Island Hotwater
Wouldn't it be beneficial to live in a state which is "least remarkable" by your definition? I'd rather live in a state that is not often on the news, where you can just be left alone and ignore all the crap. You also make amazing generalizations. I find states with nothing but nature so much more remarkable than a metropolis like NY.
You clearly have never been to Nebraska, otherwise you would have included it in your pole. Infact, there wouldn't even be a pole, because Nebraska clearly takes the cake on this one. And Maine and North Dakota? Are you freaking serious?!
not being biased, but maine is pretty damn cool. ever been to portland? Not very backwoods, people are pretty unique and open minded here.
I agree 100% And I am being biased. I find Connecticut to be real unremarkable... disproportionately populated by stuck-up judgmental New Yorker wannabes with a bug up their ass.
You should have listed Missouri I live here believe me it is nothing to write home about and I am originally from a tiny little town called Perry, Oklahoma where nothing exciting ever happens.
In all fairness, the poll should have had fifty options if possible. People can make compelling cases for any number of states... the OP wishes us to choose from his pre-selected list which means the outcome of the poll is going to reflect his prejudices.
utah is a great place, other than the mormons....... amazing and beautiful scenery, I tell you what. nebraska is kinda boring, and unremarkable....... I dont agree about the missouri comment, though.
Why do you think my missouri comment is off not much exciting happens here that often where I am at anyways.
I think missouri is an okay state.... I always find exciting things to do in missouri. IM from kansas, though....
I think he is right about the Kansas part have you ever drove through the flint hills that is the worst part of the drive back to Ok from Missouri. My deal with Missouri is there is nothing worth doing or seeing in Kansas City once you have been here awhile.
I live in CT and agree that there are a lot of stuck up people here, but that is what makes this state so remarkable! BraveSirRubin - I defined an unremarkable state not as one with nothing to offer but simply one that you never hear anything about. I would have listed fifty states but I'm only allowed to list 10. I put 7 because i was very tired when i made this thread and wanted to go to sleep
