This forum rarely lets me search, so I apologize if this has been discussed recently... Both of my tattoos are simply outlines (one of a tree, one inspired by the hands on the cover of Rejoicing in the Hands), and I'm tempted to continue using the LIAM for my second. I got it done five days ago, used A&D on it for two days, and have let it be since. It's about the size of two quarters, and is just black ink. As of right now, it's healing well and looks like it should. I haven't picked at the scabs or anything idiotic like that. Does anyone else use the "leave it alone" method for tattoos? My second artist recommended it, and it's working really well so far...
No one? It's looking good today... still a bit raised, but looks about right for six days. Wish I had some non-scented lotion to moisturize with, but I'm stranded without a car.
I have a couple of friends that have used the method, and both of their tattoos look just fine. I guess it depends on how sensitive your skin is to begin with.
i'd like to see some pictures. my first tattoo artist told me to leave it alone and not to put anything on it for the first like 2 days and the after that he said to only use a very very small amount of lotion on it, at most, once every day. my tattoo turned out great
Yeah, I don't really fuck with mine too much at all. I hate the way it gets when I put A&D on it, and that shit's all petrolatum anyway. *shrug* I just slap some lotion on it after the scab flakes off, when it's all dry and itchy and shit, and mine are all completely fine.
From two weeks ago, and it's crap quality due to my not having a real camera. It's healed really well, though! Only raised in a few areas, which is understandable since it's still relatively new, is black ink, and was done by a newly certified artist (though she's an incredibly talented badass!)
Not sure if you were trying to be a smartass, but yeah, they are supposed to look that way. My inspiration was the Rejoicing in the Hands cover. They're hand-drawn and not realistic. All of my tattoos are rough outlines; it's the style I like and what is visually appealing to me.
I use that method but I do use a tiny bit of lotion the first 2 days. Using as little lotion as possible always seems like the tattoo heels much more faster. And ends up looking better in the long run.
The "don't f-ing touch it" philosophy is great for most body mods. Simplicity is key for my tattoos. soap and gentle wash in the shower and lotion to kill the itchies. I've got 60+ hours under the needle all with this method. I've never had to get a touch up, never had an infection, and most of my tattoos are done with their peeling process in about a week.
