the government is constantly brainwashing us that cars are bad... but there is something far worse, that goes completely untouched, everyone hates it, and its a criminal waste of natural resources.. JUNK MAIL!!!! well over 1/2 (more like 3/4) of our mail is junk mail, this has all been bought as paper (usualy not recycled) transported to a printers (by road - Co2 emissions) printed (emissions from the solvents, and electricity use) transported to the distribution centers (C02 again, road transport) then posted, only to be thrown straight in the recycling.. the recycling is collected by truck (Co2 emissions again) taken to a mill to be processed (electricity and chemicals) then returned to start the cycle again.. does anyone else see this as sensless madness? the government is constantly jacking up the tax on fuel, making my life harder as my commuting costs increase, yet allowing this pointless and wastefull practice to continue.. how dare they dictate to me that i should be forced into a smaller (unsuitable) car, while happily allowing this outrage to continue completely without penalty?
We are VICTIMIZED by the government. They make things available to us, PUSH things at us, get us addicted, then tell us it's bad, which gives them a perfect excuse to create more laws and bans designed to keep their noses stuffed straight up our butts. It's all a smoke screen. The big CORPORATIONS, the government, the "accepted way of doing things" is the BIGGEST problem. The car thing is just like the global warming thing. SCARE tactics, based on just enough reality that it makes it hard to disagree without looking like a shithead. But really they take the spotlight off THEMSELVES by doing this. I believe WASTE is the number ONE problem in this society! But as long as the powers that be continue to MESS WITH OUR MINDS regarding things like cars and global warming and guns and cigarettes and drugs, consumerism, yadda yadda yadda, etc, ad nauseum, we DON'T HAVE TIME to actually look at what THEY are doing TO US. And ultimately THEY are responsible for turning us into an addicted and helpless society. We can turn ourselves inside out trying to do the "right things" environmentally on a personal level in order to try to MAKE UP FOR WHAT is going on in the world. We can have a SMALL impact on improving the environment living within this society as we know it. But we can NEVER have the ability to "save" the environment as long as the power people keep running and ruining things. We can maybe shut down ONE OR TWO polluting factories (they'll just move overseas), stop or slow down mountaintop removal (they'll just figure out a new way to rape the earth), etc, but it is an uphill battle when those holding most of the cards ALWAYS ultimately get what THEY want. We are NOT criminal for simply trying to survive in the only system they give us. We ARE complicit if we DON'T try to take responsibility for what WE do. But we can't fix something that THEY don't want fixed.
