Well in life we all set ourselves goals whether long term or short term we all usually set ourselves goals, so I made this thread to see what people hope to be doing within their future. Myself I'm 22 and ever since I was a child hanging out with my Hippy father that I would like to hitch hike across the United States, my father and I used to hitch hike together but in the back woods of Mass nothing all too wild. As I got older I started Hitchhiking all over the place, in my travels meeting some great people who had wonderful stories to tell, I rode in the back of Chicken Trucks and cattle trucks and rode with some cool truckers from one truck stop to the next, and I even used to hitchhike daily back and forth to my work 45 minutes. As I got older and times began to change, people were not picking us hitchhikers up as much, police were the ones to do it instead because of the law passed about no hitchhiking. So after a few years of not Hitchhiking I got back into it and realized what I have missed and finally decided to act on my goal of Going across the US on foot, maybe even writting a book on my travels almost like a guide to help people find themselves and what they want out of life. I figure that if I start in MASS and go up to Maine work my way over to Washington, down to Cali, over to Texas then to Florida and back up to Mass I will be gone for a good couple of months and would have nothing but story after story to tell. I understand the thought of this is very intriging but in reality there is alot of dangerous aspect in what I'll be doing, such as crazy people, police arrests, animals if I'm backpackin somewhere I dont know and so on. Honestly though who has done anything like this I have done state to state but not across country, I figure if I have money in the bank but obviously not carry it with me would be a good, not taking interstates is another good thing but it hasnt been done in the 21st Century yet and I think it would be a good Idea..........And to all of you who are very welcoming I only got 2 years left to pull this off and if I can get the government grant I am working on now I will be heading out shortly and would love to meet all of you in my travels! So thats my goal alot of rambling about it but thats what I want to do, let me know what you all think and let me know what you all have in mind for your life goals. Stay Beautiful and Stay Smiling!
Wow! What a great goal. I hope you get to fulfill your dreams; I'm sure you will. I'm from MA, too. What part are you from?
I would so buy your book. Take loadsa pictures My goal: happiness, nothing special. I wanna here some hitch-hiker stories *Sits around the campfire*
that sounds like a great plan you're going to have so much fun! you sound like you've already had an awesome life. mine is very short term, but i have a plan too. this summer i am going to move out. i'm going to live in my van during the summer, somewhere close to town. so i'll be able to get used to living without electricity or water or an outhouse or my computer, but won't be too far away if i need help. also, i'll be able to work and save money. then when fall comes, my boyfriend and maybe a friend or two are going to drive to california. i have family there, just in case. maybe we'll keep driving. i don't know yet. my long term life goals, as in, things i want to accomplish in my life: be in a band and have people who love us, go to every continent at least once, write a book, get married, make 500 lives radically better (i wouldn't actually keep score, but it's a nice thought), go to every concert and festival i want to go to, make stuffed animals , paint/draw and get really good
HappinessFirst what part you of Ma are you from? You can Private Message me if you dont want to say but I dont think the people in here are half bad pretty nice people dont have to really worry about them. Hairy Carey, I had a plan to do it like a documentary but rather than having to do all the paperwork I think I will do that but bring a voice recorder and record all my conversations while keeping the video camera on the outside as everything is going by, because if you show someones face and include their voice you have to have them sign a consent form so if I just voice record them and video tape the traveling it should work just fine. Rhasta.penguin, dont think so hard and goals will come your way. Your still young and plenty of time to find what you want to do and accomplish in your life so take it easy quit thinking so much and just enjoy life for what it is. Peace
haha I thought that too but if she includes a snorkle on the van she should be all set...haha or she could go up toward canada or Alaska which is like another 2 week trip driving from CA but it's the shit from what I hear. Friends of mine did it they were gone for 2 months traveling all over the place.
i think it would be awsome if on my travels I ran into of visited fellow hippies along the way especailly ones from this site, I mean just the stories everyone has to tell would be amazing to hear and write about. It's going to be an amazing journey especailly if I get a government travel grant and use that as my starting money for my book.
I have a similar dream. I want to travel around North America by bicycle and write about it. Hoping to do the Pacific Coast this spring/summer.
I wanna read both your books. I hope you find the right minded publishing company that is hip friendly and socially responsible. Or just down right cool to work with-so few publishing companies are out there any more. Take loads of pictures!
My life goal I'm working on right now. That's to end hatred, persecution, and all to stand in unity. And plus I wanna publish a book that I'm kinda writing, kinda not.
my goal is to go to summer camp this may with all my friends cause they are all going but i dont kno whwo to approach my parents about it.
my life goal is to get a good paying job so I can afford to buy some land way back in woods at least 10 acres and build a cabin.. i would also like to fence it in so my dog kodiak can run free.. he is my everything.. i build my life around him..
I'm not sure what goals I have in mind as far as my whole lifetime. In regards to the next 10 years, I have a lot of things in mind. Firstly, I need to hook up with some like-minded people. I'm getting trained soon to be a bike mechanic, and I'll probably doing that for a while to save up money for cheap rural land for a homesteading project I have in mind. Along the way, I intend to learn all kinds of self-sufficient skills. I'm trying to learn about ways to live off the land (ie, wilderness survival) at some point. Sometime after the home project, I may go traveling the world for a few years.
