Limewire

Ola.. I know some people don't like posts about individual programs if they dont use hose particular programs, but I'm going to ask anyways.
I am not very good with computers, in fact, i understood like a half of the words on this board... But I'm a quick study.
My Q is,
Lime wire downloads super fast for me, I mean, its great, theres soo many files and stuff, lots and lots of users. The program content is fantastic. The problem is, when the program is open, everything, everything is almost at a stand still. it can take a full minute for my 'start' menu to show up after I've hit the button on my keyboard. And the program is super slow when changing screens, do you notice how it constantly reloads the screen from top to bottom? well that takes forever. it can take 40 minutes to do a 2 minute task.

Is there something in the settings I can change?

How much RAM do you have?

 

Reinstall, Reboot, or get rid of that spy-ware infested program. You should lay down 5 bucks to a subscription music site or use something like BitTorrent. But BitTorrent can be hard to meddle with, so I suggest just paying for a program made by people looking to make Money--AKA make sure the program is in decent shape. Steer clear of Napster. Its past its glory days.

Maybe someone on the boards knows a place you can use thats easy. I dont though. Good luck man.

Could be a non stopping loop in the program code..try pressing ctrl+alt+delete and finding the process..should be something like "limewire.exe" and check out the cpu usage, if its anything like 75 that is most likely your problem.

 

Get rid of the free version, it's loaded with spyware, which is what's slowing down your machine. I use Limewire Pro, which I'm enjoying ATM. PM me if you have trouble finding a copy.

 

That is a horrible suggestion. I wasn't aware that the free version of Limewire had spyware bundled with it because I've only used the Pro version as well. I would suggest getting the Pro version of Limewire or Ares http://www.aresgalaxy.org which is free. You don't need to pay for the Pro version though. I'm sure there are plenty of people here on the forum who wouldn't care to hook you up if you just ask. If you have the time to learn how to use it you might want to check out DC++ http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net also. I think it's the absolute best for finding full albums, but it's a little harder to use than other p2p programs.

 

are you suggesting that one can send a program? like over msn or something?!

 

There has to be somewhere in the free version that you can edit a file to disallow free ads and spyware to cease it from existence.

 

The fact that something like B++ or BitTorrent is somewhat harder to use than limewire is why I recomended paying five bucks. He said he sucks at computers so why throw program names at him he probably wont be able to use. And I did suggest limewire pro, but I think its cost around 10 bucks. I was just giving him a suggetion that would be the easiest for a computer illiterate person. Thats all.

Why would the Pro Version cost money if it was the same as the free version?...

 

ares has some minor spyware but if you ditch ie your clean, also microsoft anti-spyware sees it (it's an ie toolbar)

 

Well we were all computer illiterate at one point..correct? If you have a computer with internet access there really isn't any excuse for being computer illiterate in my opinion. All you need to do is ask questions. If there is anything you need to know at all all you have to do is ask it here and we would be more than willing to help. There are MANY tutorials on how to use programs such as DC++ and bittorrent. Actually there are tutorials for about anything you can possibly think of. The best piece of advice I can give you is learn to use google and don't be afraid to ask questions. As for Limewire Pro.. if you need a crack or serial for it just ask.

If you just googled for crack then you would probably get results for the drug crack, so you need to learn to use google to your advantage. Google has some advanced search features that a lot of people don't know about. For instance if you typed in +"limewire pro" +crack OR serial then you would probably come up with some good results. There are a few well known crack sites though. I'll list a few here. I'm assuming that you have some type of antivirus software also. If not you need to get it.

There's another good program worth checking out called "crack searcher". It will find the cracks for you, and let you download them. I posted it in this forum, so if you do a search for it you should find it. As for Limewire Pro speeding up your computer...I'm not sure. There are many different things that could be slowing down your computer. Spyware is the culprit in a lot of cases. I suggest that you check out Spybot Search & Destroy and also Adaware if you haven't already. You might also want to read up on some google search techniques. It is without a doubt a very powerful tool for searching and you can find almost anything you are looking for if you know what to type in.

 

I just downloaded the pre-cracked version off WDBoards...if you go into the 733+ child forum and open the bootleg thread you'll see a link for it. Go there and register and just use the search function.

Well there are various methods for downloading stuff. I suggest that you check out the forums at zeropaid.com as they focus entirely on file sharing and various peer 2 peer programs. The thing is that everyone and their mother has an opinion as to what they think the best program for downloading is. I mainly use Ares, Limewire Pro, DC++, and bittorrent (Azereus Client). I also go to a few warez boards such as http://wareznet.net and http://appzpla.net. Ares and Limewire Pro are good programs for finding a little bit of everything such as music, programs, movies, etc. I use DC++ and Azereus http://azureus.sourceforge.net to download full albums, because I don't really like to download just one song. All of the programs that I just mentioned have a reputation for being pretty fast in comparison to other p2p programs such as emule, edonkey2000/overnet, shareaza, and others. The advantage to those programs is that they have more of a selection as far as files are concerned since there are more people on the network. I'm just not a very patient person, but if you need something pretty rare and can't find it on Ares or Limewire then you might be able to find it on emule. A lot of these programs are dependent on the network they run on. Limewire connects to the Gnutella network. Ares has its own network. Kazaa connects to the Fastrack network. Different networks have different amounts of users connected to them. The chances of you finding what you want obviously increase if there are more people connected to that particular network. You can find more info about this on the zeropaid forums. There are a few p2p clients that focus mainly on music. A lot of people use Soulseek http://www.slsknet.org/ to find full albums, which is also free. If you need more info on any of these I suggest you use google, check out the zeropaid forums, or ask questions here. I hope this info helped.. I tried to just brush over it, but it's really something that takes time to learn. I suggest just trying a few things out, learn about them, and move onto something else if you're not fond of it. Like I said before there are a lot of file sharing programs and everyone has different opinions about each of them.

 

okay I've got another Q.
I was given a number, a serial number, for lime wire pro. now what the F do I do?
and also, do you know anything about my net security thing saying i need to download 'integrated search" something, on my active X control thing?
do you know what I'm talking about?

and one more thing, when you download full albums, is it ion format, or is it played like one giant song where you cant skip or delete tracks?

 

typically with bittorrent and dl'ing full albums, it's a .zip or .rar file, and has each song as in individual .mp3 or .wma

plus the album art and such.

bittorrent is definitly my favorite.

 

Kazaa's freeware is ok, but you really cannot run too damn many programs while it is running. Spending the 30 bucks for the spy-wareless version could be worth it, since at any given time 60 million GB of stuff is online, spread between 2.5-3 million users.
